Looks like the pride of Wisconsin is the new number one in this week's AP. Leap-frogged Ohio State to claim the prize...

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I'm actually shocked. This is right in terms of the season, but I'm shocked given the weekly 'snap shots' (which are what the polls are), which should have only put them back to #2. The Badgers didn't do anything to jump over tOSU last week. Although both Wisky and Florida beat them, so in that sense it's right.

BIG **** week for Wisconsin basketball since we have tOSU in Ohio. I'm skeered.

Also noticed the ESPN rankings aren't out yet. I wonder what'll happen if they rank tOSU #1....

Yeah... it's slightly odd, but well-deserved.

How 'bout the Cardinals?!? Two road wins against ranked Marquette and Pitt vaults them into the AP's twenty spot. They were completely off the radar a week ago. Not even on the bubble. And here they are, projected as a seventh seed by ESPN:eek:

As a Gopher fan, I find it hilarious how much better the Badgers are compared to the Gophers in most sports..

Guess that's what happens when you have a real athletic director and a nice campus stadium, eh?

You can beat Marquette all day long as far as I'm concerned. ;)

I don't think it is a stretch to call this upcoming week the biggest regular season week in the history of Wisconsin basketball. It certainly is one that will be the most anticipated of all time

The Badgers will be ranked anywhere from #1-3 with 2 tough road games looming.

Sweep both games and the Big Ten title is ours and a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney, and probably the #1 overall rankings heading into the tourney as well.

Split the games and we still have a chance to tie for the title depending on how things fall.

Lose both and hopefully our seed doesn't fall below a #2.

It is going to be a very nerve racking week for all of us Badger fans.

Of course, before the tOSU hype to build, we need to finish off MSU first, which can be tough. The Big 10 with home court advantage is like this:

    Big 10 - 88.0%

    SEC - 78.3%

    MVC - 74.5%

    Big East - 73.9%

    Pac 10 - 71.9%

    Big 12 - 71.6%

    ACC - 69.8%

It's all about recruiting. MN needs to be dedicated to building a contender, but that usually requires a coach who won't use your school as a stepping stone to bigger programs in all sports.

It doesn't help that 60% of your seats were filled with Badger fans last week, and the rest were Gophers, or empty. :p

It is, 2005 the SEC was at 85.7% and the Big 10 was 83.9%

That basically switched in the 2006 season, and now in 2007 the Big 10 is up to 88%...

Too funny... there will be plenty of time for number #2. Be careful whatcha wish for:D At least now you have the rare luxury of simultaneously wearing the target and playing the underdog. Come to think of it.... I would have to guess that this is the first time a #1 (who is really #2) played a #2 (who is really #1).

Wisconsin is #1 legitimately, if you look at the season so far. If you take the last 3 weeks, they're #2. Nothing happened in those few weeks to warrant the leap frog, granted Wisconsin's loss to Indiana shouldn't have put them behind tOSU to begin with, but I digress...

It's just nice to finally see some voters with common sense in sports.

We beat Ohio State at home, have actually beaten teams in the top 25, and have a better record. I'm still surprised it happened.

I know who I think the better team is. tOSU has the freak of nature in Oden (who should be carbon dated, I mean the dude looks 40), but Wisconsin has unmatched depth with a great coach, and the deserving POY. It's really Wisconsins to lose, but there's no discounting the effect of Big 10 home courts. They're a HUGE edge in any game. I don't care who you are.

Wisconsins' sports programs are looking good. First the football team, and now basketball. I think that Oden will need a big night when the Badgers come visiting. Would be nice to see Oden return to OSU for his sophmore year though.

It's funny how other people rip on MN for their fan support and how their team travels so well......

What do you expect? We get the most pompous **** coaches, who can't coach or recruit..They can't even keep the top MN high school kids from going elsewhere..

We have 3 MAJOR sports teams sharing the absolute WORST excuse for a stadium ever..(the Twins, Gopher football, and the Vikings)..

Gopher basketball can't win without cheating, the Timberwolves are a laughing stock..They get caught cheating and are penalized by not getting first round picks for 5 years..and all of that for JOE SMITH (AKA not Michael Jordan)

I don't think it's a coincidence that Gopher hockey and the Wild ALWAYS sell out..they put out a quality product with people in charge who know what the hell they are doing..
