Grounding issue...I think

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago, but I'm still having the problem and I'm desperate for help:o I just bought an Adcom 545 off of Audiogon and have it hooked up to my H/K 7300 running the front R/L. I have LSi 7's and an LSiC up front, so the reason for my purchase was to take a little strain off of the H/K. (this has ben a success, the H/K is running much cooler).
The problem?? I'm getting a "popping" sound out of my front R/L speakers when I change TV channels, change the source on my AVR, make selections from the menus on a DVD, etc. I assume this is a grounding problem, but how do I fix it? I've tried 1) plugging the amp into a different socket. 2) running a ground wire from my Monster MK3500 to the amp. (I used a strand of 14g speaker wire to do this, could that have been the reason it didn't work?)
The "popping' isn't very loud, but is obviously annoying. It's not damaging my speakers is it?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks also to McLoki and referer for their responses to my previous post on this subject.

try unplugging the cable tv wire. You may need a filter. My Adcoms are very sensative to CATV noise.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I read a thread in another forum that was about specific HTR receivers that when you added an external amp developed this problem. I tried to find it again but was not successful in the search. I have a slight muffled thump that occurs when I switch sources on my Yamaha HTR, and it is caused by the Outlaw ICBM bass management unit I have running, and is a known side effect with that unit. It's barely noticable so I don't worry about it.
I would disconnect your cable or satellite coax and see if that stops it. If it does then it is probably related to the lack of grounding of the cable/satellite feed and you need an isolator.DKG999

My 545 has been doing this also, not a loud bump moreso just a little thump when i lower the volume all the way down or change dvd's etc.
At the moment i have mine biamping my center channel, but it has done it thorugh different speakers pushing the fronts also. Ive changed cables, rerouted the cables, and tryed two other outlets. Nothing has changed and ive learned to live with it as it seems minor.
Never did do it in my 2 channel rig though, so not sure what it could be.

Sounds like the AVR is sending a little pulse of DC to the pre outs when switching.Testing

Try a cheater plug on the amp or the AVR,
sometimes this helps.HT SYSTEM-

GV#27: I was wondering if it had something to do with the preouts. If this is the case, I guess there's no solution.
tonyb: Forgive my ignorance, but what's a cheater plug?:o

Go to Radio Shack & get a plug that you will plug your 3 prong cord into & then you plug the 2 prong end into the wall, protector whatever. It did a wonderful job of taking the hum away that I had from my amp!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

cfrizz: I'll have to check and see if Radio Shack has an adapter that does the opposite (my power cord has a two-prong plug). This was actually my first idea as to how to solve the problem, but I went to Home Depot and they didn't have an adapter that would convert a two-prong to a three-prong. I think I'll go to Radioshack.com right now and see if they have it. That would be great.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Your power cord on your amp or AVR only has 2 prongs ?
Maybe up grade the power cord if that is the case.
Also make sure no bare wires are touching terminals they
shoudn't be in the rear of the avr.HT SYSTEM-

tony: my amp power cord has two prongs.
I checked out radioshack.com and they don't seem to have an adapted that I need. I run across a ground loop isolator like the one I used in my car system many years ago. Never thought about using this for HT and frankly I don't know if I like the idea, but if anyone has any positive experience...I might just give it a shot.
Thanks to all for the suggestions:)Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Just thought I'd give an update on my problem. This may not be the best solution, but it seems to be working. I've run a RadioShack ground loop isolator from AVR to amp AND ground wire from amp to power conditioner. I haven't calibrated and honestly have only watched one movie since doing this, but I didn't notice a loss in audio quality (but then again, I'm no audiophile:D ). Anyway, hope this helps someone else who runs into the same problem. Thanks for all the suggestions.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden
