How to find a vintage speakers value?

Iv'e loved polk speakers for years. I remember the local hifi shop (team electronics in peoria Il) when the Polk Ls series came out.
I fell in love with the ls90's, but rarely, if ever see them for sale, and when i do, either they are sold or the asking price is $1500 bucks.
That being said, a few years later, my supervisor mentioned that he was getting divorced and he was going to part out his home theater. He had a pair of Black Ash Polk LS70's, so I gave them a listen and said Id take them before I knew what he was asking.
One rule of thumb, I always heard that if you are buying used speakers, even in great shape, the price is half what retail is. Later on, I have discredited this. You can find amazing buys on ebay, and somethings go for an obscene amount.
Anyway, he said he'd let them go for $700 for the pair, and if memory served me correct, they went for almost $1200 or so new.
I didnt barder, I didnt flinch, I was flat broke and he knew it, and after three paychecks I had them. I wrapped them up in clean sheets, and put them in the closet until I could afford a good (using that term loosely) intergrated amp and a cd player.
A few months later, I came across a Denon PMA 1315R. I had a dedicated listening room. One chair, and the polks. A humble stand for the Denon pieces I had aquired and I enjoyed them for quite some time.
Times have changed, and Im afraid that I have decided to sell them.
My problem.
I can't find a current value for them.
I have checked on Ebay, and googled it.
Anyone have any idea how much these are worth today?
I even went to the local hi-fi stores that are still in business, and asked what they thought they would bring, and both of the local shops had no idea, and discredited them almost upon saying polk.
All I want is an honest number of where to ask.
A pair of black ash LS70's in mint conditon.
I can snap a pic or two of them.
Anyone see a pair of ls70s for sale recently?
Thanks
Dan

70's - $350-$550
90's - $450-$650
A good rule of thumb is a third of retail, for pretty much any used audio equipment - junk, collectable, and uber esoteric peices aside.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Thanks Rus.
Ill toss an ad up here for them, when ever my post count gets past 25. -
I'll second Russman's estimate. Depending on condition, original boxes, etc.
