Crossover points and Slopes for Separates

I have the older polk 6 3/4 separates in the front stage and 5 1/4 Polk DX separates in the rear built on to a plate. Right now I have the fronts crossed over at 100Hz with a 6db slope. And the rears at 125Hz with a 12db slope. I was wondering is this is the way to go or should I be doing something differently. I have 2 12 inch Image Dynamic IDMAX subs crossed over at 70 hz 18 db slope. I crank my music pretty loud so I don't want to distort the mids. that is my reason for the kind of conservative crossover points. Should i lower the crossover points? Should I Change the Slopes 6,12,18,24 are my options. The separates are getting about 60 wrms. Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend lowering the crossover point and increasing the slope on the front speakers- instead of 100Hz @ 6dB, try 60 Hz @ 12 or 18dB. You should get better midbass and be able to crank it up just as loud.

would you leave the sub at 70 hz or lower that as well?

i'm runnin teh same comps you are friend.. my girlfriend has the 3055, i've got the 3065 dx's... they're really nice...

personally, here's my suggestion... dynamat your front doors so that they're nice and sturdy -- cover any holes in the door paneling with dynamat so its "more air tight"

if you do that, you can cross them over at like 90 hertz, this will retain your bass-sound while keeping them from causing excessive door rattle / distortion due to the fact that their in free air. USE A 18 DB / OCTAVE SLOPE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

I would not do 60, as you're really stretching the limits of the speaker at that point.. the thing only responds down to 45 hertz, and anything below about 70 is going to make it rumble on the loud tracks with teh volume up (rumble in a bad way not the good way..lol)

far as rears.. i usually like more bass outa my rears - as a fill... but most people disagree with me on that... i'd say due to the smaller speaker in back that you probably should cut them around 100. again a 12-18 db / octave slope is preferred so it smooth but also tight enough of a cut off to get the job done.

far as those subs... man IDMAX's are the creme-de-le-creme of subwoofers... adire brahma's can't even touch them for sound quality!

However, i would relaly consider turning up your crossover on those subs to like 80 and 100 hertz... hell, go at 90 so you have a smooth transition to the front stage.

i used to drive about 65 watts on my dx components and they broke up at high volumes... then i dumped about 175 watts per channel on them and was able to turn them up literally twice to 3 times as loud as before without getting any break up. you might want to invest in a 100 x 4 amp ... i'm currently running an mtx 6304 that does about 90 x 4 into my comps / rear coax polk's and its performance over the old 65 x 4 amp is very noticeable... (although i wouldn't mind another 30 watts per channel even now!)
