well i cant fast forward or rewind. you know how when a tape is over the player kicks off and disengages, it automaticlly disengages when i press play ff or rew after about three seconds. secondly i cant figure out how to open it up and get the cover off there are no screws on the top of the cover, where are the screws at. and the capstans are not frozen i can spin them with my fingers, they just wont spin under power.

Sounds like it needs a complete cleaning & lube job along w/ the belt (or perhaps beltS.) If you aren't mechanically inclined, then it might be better to have it serviced by a qualified tech. To clean things up inside may require taking the drive system apart. And if it isn't obvious to you how to open the case, then you shouldn't even think about touching the drive mechanism. :(

On the other hand, if you want to use this as a learning experience, don't mind if the unit is a casualty of the processs, and view the price paid for the unit as not significant: then have a go at it! :)

    Cheers, Jim

Try searching if you didn;t already. Seems to me not too long ago someone was asking about a Nak 600 on audiokarma

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it.
