Ghostly Harman AVR. . extraelectrical experience

Have any of the many HK AVR owners out there had problems with intermittent and spontaneous volume increases? It just happened again. This time it went maxed itself out at 0dB. The LSi9 were driven so hard that I could feel the air moving 6 feet away. It was like that commercial with the guy sitting in the chair, and the . . you know.
Anywhat, this time I caused some myself no small injury and I don't know yet if my foot was broken in an attempt to navigate to the AVR to kill the fu&#er. I may post the pictures of my foot in Doro's "show me your guts" post.
But to the gear:
It's started to happen more frequently, and I'm not sure if it's source specific, but it has now caused me bodily harm trying to protect the 9's. The Polks you will all be happy to know are fine. My foot, however is purple and I've applied a bag of frozen peas, and ingested something that came from a perscription bottle.
Anyone had this particular ghost, and has anyone narrowed down the culprit or source, or type of input? I'm thinking it's only when a digital input is used, but I cannot rule anything out. I cannot recall it happening in FM, or straight TV, but it's possible that it has. I know the warranty is good, so I will ship it back when I take my next vacation.

I would say my original re-furbed H/K AVR had seizures. And as time went on, it occured ore frequently. Here's what it would do:
I'm watching my movie, and from the corner of my eye, I'd see the surround type (e.g. DD, Logic 7, etc) change on its own. Then it would go into a full-on tripfest - it would start changing speakeer sets, balance levels, input modes, basicly anything you could change with the press of a button on the front of the AVR multiple times per second. It was wild. And it was unusable. After trying to get it fixed through H/K (and they couldn't), they replaced it with another refurb that has its own inherent flaw: a bad internal battery - but at least thats livable.
Such great performance - such poor reliability.Do you hear that buzzing noise? -
My H/K (used, but not B Stock) always plays like, a white noise that fades around all 5 speakers, about 15 minutes after being turned on. It fades in and out sequentially around the speakers. Very odd. But it only does it once every power cycle. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
