Just wondering hot HOT your HD cable box gets?
Tonight I after watching some shows I decided to feel the cable box, boy it was hot. Now My problem is that it's on top of my Outlaw mono and my amp was hot not as hot as the HD cable box but warm enough. The box we have is by Scientific Atlantic I think it's the 3250. So is your box hot? or do I have one that's defective?

Mine gets pretty warm, but I would not consider it hot.

Most cable and sat boxes are hot (very warm) all the time, even when off. I recently read an artical on it. Thier is actually a electrical movement because they constantly consume (waste) electricity. OFF or ON they use the same amount of juice.

Mine is very warm and is a SA8300HD DVR. Since I rent it from the Cable company, it is in the least ventilated part of my component credenza.
Had it for about a year and a SA8300SD DVR before that for 2 years. Never have had problem one with it. Very reliable and obviously built to take some heat.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

Do you hear the hard drives clicking all the time? -
Glad I'm not the only one with a hot one in the house. My only concern, if there should even be one is the heat from the HD box on my outlaw. Should I move it or can the outlaw take the heat?

If you are talking about an Outlaw amp, I know they do not have fans so heat distribution is a must. I would place the box on a CD or DVD player instead. Not saying for certainty that having the box on the Outlaw is going to hurt it, but then again, why chance placing a hot plate on a component that depends on heat sinks and heat distribution to cool off?Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

I think you should be okay. If you are concerned, buy a cabinet fan if you have an enclosed cabinet. My setup has an enclosed cabinet and I started with my Xbox 360 on top of the SA8300 and that worked for about two hours. You could smell the finish on the wood cooking. I have since moved the 360 out and bought a cabinet fan behind the DVR and all is well. -
Damn...with that title I was expecting some "tasteful" pictures_________________________________________________

Move the box Willow. The Outlaw does run cool, but I wouldn't block any of its vents.Willow wrote:Glad I'm not the only one with a hot one in the house. Joe I do not hear that. When the hard drive clicks that usually means that the drive is on its way out. Call the cable company to have them replace it. -

Dave, I've had DVRs from Comcast going on five years now and they all have made clicking sounds. "Replace it!" heck they can't even give me the other two I ordered when I moved in because, and I quote, "they are in such high demand that we don't have enough to go around" what a crock of dodo, I'm going to call them this week and tell them that if I don't have my DVRs by Friday, I am goin with DirecTV cause they GIVE you four DVRs for free. The only problem is that I love Comcast. . . not their customer service, just what they provide. -

It's done I moved the HD box ontop of my DVD player. Now I have the Xbox on top of the Outlaw, which is cooled by a fan, and I rarely use it. So I fgure if you can stack a couple monos then my Xbox is fine.
