Someone over at the Outlaw forums had the same question and called ATI about it, they said that the Outlaw was very comparable but the ATI was a bit better built and sounded a bit better.

Out of morbid curiosity, do think that an ATI rep would really have anything different to say?
I'm willing to bet the differences are subtle. The question then is (and none of us can really answer)....what price do those subtle differences deserve?

I can only speak to the smaller versions -- the Outlaw monoblocks and the ATI 1502 -- since I owned them once upon a time. The ATI is vastly superior to the monoblocks. Not sure if that helps, but I'd go with ATI.
BTW -- it doesn't matter if ATI assembles Outlaw amps. They're not the same amp unless the Outlaw brand is rebadged ATI stuff, which is doubtful.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

dholmes, are you planning to only use the amp for HT? If so, either will probably be fine. For 2 channel, I do not find the Outlaws as sufficient. I have never heard an ATI amp before, but an Earthquake amp may outperform both of them from the research I have done, and close to the same $.

Neither, I'd buy a used Krell KSA 250, spend a few hundred and have the cap's replaced and never look back. Warning it is class A and runs VERY hot.

What about a used Sunfire? They are available in the price range you are looking for and I am sure they wouldn't disappoint you.

You can get a used Earthquake Cinenova in that price range and they are excellent for HT.Sharp Elite 70

An ATI 2007 just popped up on agon for what looks like a good deal ($1500):

Ahh hell, buy 'em all. The ones you don't like could always be used as doorstops or small boat anchors.

I suggest welding some re-bar to the amp, curve it first, it will snag and hold the bottom better.
Whatever you get, enjoy. The thrill of the hunt (and frustration) has always been part of the fun for me.
