Getting rid of a Pio Elite VSX-53TX for a Sony STR-DG1000.... Am I nuts?

Folks, I have a Pio Elite 53tx which has been a nice receiver, but am preparing to buy a PS3 for Blu-Ray. I am very interested in HDMI switching, upconversion, scaling, and audio abilities that the Pio 82TXV has, but am not at all interested in dealing with Hardware issues. I can't afford it from an authorized dealer, and am worried that I would not get support for the updates. The fabled updates.

I have done a bunch of research, and it looks like folks are having GREAT luck with the Sony DG1000 and da5200ES. The 5200ES looks great, and the GUI is nice, but not really necessary for me.

The DG1000 can be had for about $550 shipped online, which is fantastic. It has no LFE issues, and will do the job I think. It definately doesn't have the boutique and cool factor of the Elite. The Sony is rated with more power. Apparently Sony has gotten their act together with their higher end Non-ES receivers finally. I had an older STR-DB940 avr that was fantastic. 4 ohm stable, etc. This was before the DE series, which I heard were attrocious.

CNET rated it high.....

Talk me into (or out of) this guys. Basically I can have the DG1000 AND a PS3 for the price of an Elite 82TXV.

Throw your input my way!

Oh, my setup is as follows:

Optoma HD70 projector
Polk RTi70 towers
Polk CSi40 Center
Polk FXi30 side surrounds
Polk RTi28 rears
Paradigm PDR-10 Subwoofer

I have a Sony DVP-NC85H upscaling DVD Player, and will be getting a PS3 in the very near future. I am getting rid of the PS2 and XBox, so that is about it for audio video gear in the theater.

I would say stick with component cables for your pic fro me HDMI didn't WOW me. I'd rather invest my money in an amazing receiver or some amps and run off component then buy a less expensive HDMI capable receiver.
As far as which receiver, well I didn't like the Sony I had way back when and pioneer just doesn't interest me at all.

I just have no trust in a Sony branded receiver. In my experience, they are unreliable, aren't user friendly, and most importantly, sound terrible. But other than that, they are great!

About 10 years ago I bought a Sony reciever for my HT. I couldn't adjust the EQ, bass or treble in 2 channel without reading the manual for 30 minutes. To say it wasn't user friendly would be an understatement. I gave it away and bought a simple Pioneer HT reciever that was easy to use for the next 8 years.

I will never buy a Sony HT reciever again.

Maybe things have chnaged. Do a demo at the store and try to modify things and see if it is simple to operate.
