A local seller has an Oracle Delphi MK2 with a Rocksan Artemiz tonearm and a Ortofon OM30 for sale for $1500. Does anybody know anything about this table and is it a reasonable price to pay?

On agon, the Mk 4 is going for $2500.

I can't imagine that $1500 would be a bad deal with those extras for that tt... just how good of one is a question.

Any of you vinylheads out there got some input?

Cartridge is certainly good. Can't speak for the turntable but check out this link: http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-Tables.html. Sounds like he likes the Oracle Delphi a fair bit. Seems to me if the stylus on the OM30 is good and the table and tonearm have no issues, that it is one hell of a deal.

Yes Joe, that is the exact table. I just don't know what the value of these tables are. It looks beautiful for sure. In the ad he says it could use a new cartridge. He also offers to play it at his house or the buyers house if the distance isn't too far. He's not too far at all, I just called him and he stepped out for a while.

So, what should I offer, or is the price reasonable?

Btw Joe, that picture says it's a Mark IV, the seller has a Mark II but it looks like the one in the picture.

Oracle Delphi's used to be considered the "high end" of turntables. I would love to own one. $1500 seems okay, I think you might be able to get him down. You should check to see what the upgrades would cost to bring it to the latest version then make your decision. But I would definitely listen first and make sure it can be transported safely. I would also try to haggle a little lower price since it needs a new cartridge. I think the latest version is the Delphi V.

The Ortofon OM30 body will let you use your choice of styli, OM10 up to OM40. Unfortunately, most of the cost is in the stylus, which is shot, rather than the cartridge body. On that basis I probably would try to nudge him down a little. I recently bought an VPI Scout with a nearly new Dynavector 10x5 for around $1200 on Audiogon. I would guess that this system is very roughly equivalent. Have you priced out the Ortofon replacement styli on needledoctor.com? Might be able to find them cheaper somewhere else, but at least that will give you a ballpark estimate. Ortofon OM30 stylus is $169, or upgrade to OM40 for $229. Maybe offer $1250 less most of the price of OM30 stylus replacement: $1100.00?

I'm gonna try to get it for $1,000 ...remember, I'm talking Canadian dollars here. I'm gonna have to sell my 2 Technics turntables very soon and some other gear I have lying around. As patient and understanding as my wife has been, she's not very happy with this "potential" purchase.

Hmmm....I also have an freshly built 350 Chevy engine with a complete roller system with tunnel ram and dual holleys.....I wonder if I should put THAT in the Polk FS section?
