RF splitter/amplifier suggestions?

My parents are building a new home and my father is pre-wiring for an antenna to receive over the air HD. He needs to split the line 4 ways in the attic and then another 4 in the basement.
I'm curious what would be the best route to take. I would assume that standard passive splitters would weaken the signal too much, so I'm in search of a splitter/amplifier but have no idea what brand I should be searching for, or where to find it.
Thanks in advance!
Dave

philips makes ok splitters/amps, archer has been around quite a while. you could go with an amp, with a separate splitter, or built in. If going separate just look for one with the least amount of signal drop(dbs)
