Rear and side surround settings - Bipole or Dipole?

I have all Polk gear which I've had for years. It's older stuff (rt1000ps, f/x500 surrounds, center, ). I bought a pair of rt f/x (older rear surround speakers) that have a bipole/dipole setting. I have the f/x500 on the side walls facing the couch (per instructions) and set on dipole. I suspect I set the rt f/x speakers in the rear at bipole. Any opinions on this would be appreciated. Oh, I'm running a Denon 2807 and have used the Audyssey MultiEQ to tune the room (to six positions per instructions). The sound field is pretty expansive but I'm trying to understand a bit more how it works and if there are advantages to switching those speakers in or out of phase. Thanks.

See the room at:

and ignore any reference to the rear speakers...I need to update my blog.

Just based on what I've read on the THX website (not on my actual experience) the sides should be set to di-pole and the rears to bi-pole.

Love the pictures of the room. I love the lights on the wall (sconces). Where did you get those? I'm thinking about putting wall sconces in my HT room I'm slowly working on, and so far I haven't seen any that I really like.

We found the sconces at Home Depot...the columns below them were designed by an industrial designers I work with and were made out of MDF and poplar. The paint is gold flake over teal. Was very fun to put together. Thanks for your thoughts.
