Hello everyone! I have just taken my first hit of the HT crackpipe and I'm hooked! I have a few questions about the new system I am setting up in my sig below. I wanted to do the Mo Power thing and got a super deal on a pro amp I couldn't pass up.It's a Crown CP660 75w X 6 and brigeable. I was thinking of running it at 150x3 on the fronts and center and running the rear thru the HK. First is this a good, usable amp for my setup? It says its can be for HT use. It was being used to run a setup in a coffeeshop for music. Is the fan going to be too loud, it says variable speed to meet cooling needs? Next the inputs are "three-terminal barrier block balanced connectors" how do you connect that at one end to my RCA preout on the HK. Or am I better off with a different amp. I'm trying not to throw down any more cash till I recover from this and I need my rear surrounds first but I could sell this amp and use the$ on another. Thanks for the help!!

I don't know about that amp, but Pro amps in general aren't highly regarded for home use. They are designed to deliver power, not sound quality. YMMV.

Agreed . Most pro amps are designed for power and stamina not discerning ears. It has been my experience that most of them dont sound very musical. Kind of harsh to my ears actually and unrefined. I did have one amp that sounded great as a home amp even though it was designed as a pro amp. The ALTEC-9440A a 2 channel amp. I also owned the ALTEC 9444A a 2 channel amp and it sounded awful to me. Since you have it you are the one that has to be happy with it. so try to compare to a couple other amps if you can, have your buddys bring theres over to compare to give you some idea. btw you can go to your local pro music shop and buy the adapters you need to convert from the balanced ins on the amp to the rca preouts on your reciever. Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Thanks forthe help. I'm not finding much on this amp online "which should tell me something" It was used to run the audio system in a coffee shop and the Crown website states it can be used for HT. I got a smokin deal on it but I may just sell it and find one more suited to my needs. I just watched one sell on Ebay for 500. with 27 bids so some one must like them!

That doesnt surprise me on the price. I believe it was a $1300.00 or so amp new and its not very old. And crown is a respected name in pro audio. If you can sell it for $500.00 then i would look for something like a marantz MM9000 amp its 150wpc X 5 and can be had in the 500- 700 range on ebay. Or some similar amp. REGARDS SNOW
