R300/CS2 considered large or small when set up

Hi guys,

Here's another question, having the denon avr587, and monitor 50s setup in front as large, the R300s as the surround back. In the receiver would the R300 be consider large or small? and if I was to get the CS2 as center, would that also be consider large or small when set up?

Thanks
Starter kit:

Receiver: Denon AVR587
Front: Monitor 50s
Surround back: R300s
Sub: Boston XB4

    In my opinion:

If you have a sub-woofer, yes set them to small.

If you don't have a sub-woofer, I don't think it will make much difference with those speakers (try both ways). You might want to still set the center to small.

ah yes, I do have a Boston XB4 as the sub, would the sound be mucho different with the monitor 50 and the R300? and would the center speaker be a huge different than now? at the moment I already have the monitor 50s and the R300s plus the sub.

According to the specs, none of your speakers go much below 60-50hz. So by setting your speakers to small, your receiver should send the bass below the crossover setting to the sub-woofer (sub-woofer enabled with a crossover in your receiver setup, and hooked up to sub/lfe out). This should allow the sub-woofer to fill in below where your speakers can't go very well.

You will notice more of a differance on speakers where more bass is normally sent. So in order of importance/more bass:

The Font Left/Right speakers usually receive the most bass, and are important for stereo music. Try setting them to small, and the sub-woofer crossover in your receiver to 80hz (you might also try 60hz). Blend the sub-woofer in (adjusting volume) to get the best sound when listening.

The center gets some bass. What some people notice is that sometimes voices are clearer when you set the center to small.

Other than some sound effects, there usually isn't much bass in the surrounds. So you may not notice much difference when setting surrounds to small, but it is recommended.

As a rule, I like to set all speakers for HT to small unless you have active EQ to compenstae for the cancellations caused by the overlap.

If you get towers that can handle the lows, for 2 channel nothing beats full range.

ah, thanks all for your reply/inputs. Currently I do not have a center speaker yet, still looking for one, was thinking/leaning toward the CS2 unless you guys think something else is better suited. So the monitor 50s arent' supposed to be consider large then? If that's the case I'll try to set them to small and see if I can see much of a different. The Crossover is already set at a default I think to 80 so I'll also try 60 too and test it out.
