It's been interesting.
Bad news- Nad amp craps out
Good news- got a great deal on a Rotel rb980, mint!

Bad news-Nad 917 sounds like crap with Rotel
Good news-Rotel pre salvaged from the grave works

Bad news- Rotel pre doesn't have remote, sounds a bit bright
Good news-found a Parasound psp1000 at a decent price, sounds great!

Bad news-remote is dead
Good news- found a remote thats works with Parasound and my AMC CDP

Bad news- No one bought either set of Snells
Good news- both sets of speakers sound great with the new set-up!

What a hobby:confused:

Well you are sure living up to your username...

Again I cannot stress enough the value of the Bose Wave Radio...

Good to hear that it all worked out for ya in the end. So the Parasound pre and Rotel amp play nice together, but not the Nad pre and the Rotel amp?

    Sound all too familiar.

    Good/bad alternating lines below:

    Chapter 1.

    Good deal on Oracle
    Oracle needs work
Good deal on parts to fix oracle
    Oracle needs more work.
    Finally happy with Oracle
Obsession takes over and "forces" me to look at other tables.
    Found good deal on VPI
    Can't sell Oracle...

    Chapter 2.

    Great deal on Mirage speakers
Mirage are power hungry, need more juice.
Found great deal on B&K package
Amp and pre have minor problems
Not too expensive to fix (but wipes out the previous good deal)
Can't live without remote and amp still not enough power.
    Sold amp
    Can't sell preamp
Found good deal on big Parasound
Parasound arrived damaged, had to send back.

    To be continued...

I could go on, but this seems to be the way of our hobby.

    Steve,
I'm jealous. I had nice synergy for awhile with my Monitor 5A and my big Sony ES integrated. I should have stuck with that setup. Considering the relatively small amount of money I had into the two pieces, it was amazing.

The Nad 917 just didn't sound all that good with the Rotel.
It did just fine with the Nad 2400. Some online research found another
person who had the same problem.(same pre/Rotel amp).
At that point, I knew I was shopping for a pre.
I just took a while. There was interest in the Snell E's, but I wasn't going to give them away.
Looks like I would have to spend a bundle to get better.
I think another night of listening will tell the story.

I've had good luck with the Parasound/Rotel combination myself. Big plus on that. Also, if you're using ratshack interconnects with the setup, I've found major improvements to the low end by upgrading them.
Lovin that music year after year.

I now have acquired four different combos of pres / amps, two sources and have completely run out of room in my rack and in my apartment.

And, now that I have the Lexicon and SCD 222ES and therefore SACD and remote capabilities, I'm happy with my old B&K gear. . . so I really didn't have to buy any of this stuff.
Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand
Bedroom: Samsung HPR-4252, Toshiba HD-A2, HK 3480, Signal Cable, AQ speaker cable, Totem Dreamcatchers, SVS PB10-NSD, URC MX-850

Well Frack me! More bad. Another package shows up destroyed. 1 less VPI HW-19 dustcover, 1 less Accuphase AC-3, 1 less Sumiko FT-3. Not sure what else. I'm getting sick and tired of this ****. I'm about to give up and do local only. I should have taken the advice of some others long ago. I figured original packaging, double box, what can happen? Idiot packer, that's what happened. The original packing only works if you pack it the way it was (DUH) originally packed! You can't leave the fricking platter on!

    Steve,

I will have to say that one thing I admire about you is that you have found nirvana faster and easier than almost anyone else here. That's an awesome feat man. Two thumbs up!

Ok, things are on the up. 2nd Parasound arrived today and its good. Not perferct, but good. Just need some $3 fuses and it was good to go. Also found an SL-1200mk2 in great shape for $160. It will do for the time, now that the Oracle is on its way to a new Owner. Not sure what I'm going to do with the VPI.
