I have some store credit to burn at Fry's Electronics and was considering this Netgear EVA700 unit. I do have a cable that I'm running between my laptop and receiver but I'm a little tired of the 20' cable running through my living room.

Have any of y'all ever used this type of device? Any pros or cons either way?

I havn't used that one in particular, but odds are it's going to sound better than an audio cable plugged into your laptops internal soundcard. Besides, it's convenient... and if you acquire (I'll leave the means to you) videos on your computer, it's nice to watch them without a hassle.
Lovin that music year after year.

    **** through the HT?!?!?!?!? Brilliant.........:D

I've actually got this Creative PCMCIA sound card for my laptop which would suck to be bypassing by way of the Netgear, but at least it will be convenient in that it'll eliminate the cord......hmmmm..........

I dunno. I had a Netgear wifi music bridge thingy, and it just plain sucked. It never worked well at all. I am very skeptical about Netgear media products like these.

I agree......though I asked a few of the people in the store and between the D-Link that they had and the Netgear, they unanimously recommended the Netgear for performance and features over the D-Link.

D-Link is one that I'd stay away from, but overall, I don't know that there are that many of these types of devices out there.

There are actually a fair amount. With the merging of home theater audio and mp3's, more people are trying to find ways to connect their computers to them. There's a fairly big market out there for that.

Does Frys carry any of the Roku products?

You could always buy an Xbox 360 you know.

Google Roku. They make very nice wifi media bridges.

The 360 was designed to be a media bridge. You might want to just think about it. Unless you are using a MAC.

I tried a Linksys Media adapter which is similar was for as wireless music / pictures, but I'm completely down on this. I just plain sucked pictures where soft / music sounded flat. I always felt it could've been better if it had optical out which the one you're looking into does. So I'm iffy but if priced well may give it a shot. I like the fact pictures from PC can be displayed on a bigger set which all can enjoy at once.

    Speakers
    Carver Amazing Fronts
    CS400i Center
    RT800i's Rears
    Sub Paradigm Servo 15

    Parasound Halo A23
    Pioneer 84TXSi AVR
    Pioneer 79Avi DVD

I like the Slim Devices Transporter, but $2k for something that I'm wanting to stream music for is beyond excessive..... The other one is ok, but I don't think Fry's has them.

I'm limited to what Fry's has because that's where I have the credit at and there are no Fry's where I'm moving to so have to spend the credit.

I myself am in the market for a media bridge (digital). . . I was leaning toward the D-Link 520, have heard good and bad. . . CNET gave it a very good rating - any thoughts?
