How loud do you demo your system to others?

I was just wondering how loud (over typical listening volumes) do you usually demo your system to others? I usually end up 5-10 db louder than I would normally sit and listen to a movie.

Just wondering where you guys demo at. (do you like your ears ringing after a demo - or do you just sit and watch a movie with someone and ask what did you think?)

I always demo it louder than I should. (+10 dbs and over)

I think it would be better to just run it at my "normal" levels. Some day I hope to mature.

Since I'm just getting more heavily into home audio, I have a tendancy to crank it not only louder than necessary when I'm demoing it for my friends, but also probably louder than I should when I'm just enjoying it myself. . .and I wonder why my ears ring when I'm trying to sleep at night!

Depends on who it is. Sometimes I turn it up till they leave!

    Edit
Today my Xwife came in screaming while I had my stereo cranked "ARE YOU DEAF".
I resisted telling her it was from her yelling at me all the time :D
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I demo speakers at the level I prefer to listen at - which is quite loud, but short of ear-ringing levels. Basically, I shoot for nearly life-like without the pain. However, for the sake of being neighborly - I don't listen at those levels too often.

I prefer to listen at a loud level. Its never too loud, there is no distortion, but no one would mistake it for anything but loud. And this is the level that I demo material at, or lower to their liking.

I give them the volume control, as I have hearing loss, a comfortably loud level to me is usually too high for others.

Nobody has ever turned it up higher than I can stand, and I figure I haven't even pushed my system much past 3/4 of full potential.

Usually, not very loud at all. My speakers simply weren't designed to shake the rafters. If I'm demoing my system for a "non-audiophile", a bit of audio trickery that they usually mention is that it seems that the sound is not even coming from the speakers. They'll usually walk right up to 'em and not be able to pinpoint it.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. I usually let those who want to play with the volume ... Pre/Pro is set to max out at -15 which no one would get to unless they were almost totally deaf.

The HT rig- normal volume. That SVS will instill fear in them!
2-channel-slightly higher volume. I normally don't listen all that loud.
No higher than 10:00 o'clock. Often 9:00 o'clock will get it.

i start at normal volume levels then i bring it up a little bit.. but you can't really get the whole HT effect if you don't crank it at least for one scene or two from a movie.

People just aren't used to hearing loud movie volumes in their home.. same with the SDA's. they don't appear to loud to me.. but when you have that many drivers firing in your face.. it tends to be lounder than you think. :)

I have the max volume on my receiver set to -16. Probably a good thing as one day my nephews were over watching The Incredibles, while I was in the kitchen the volume went up all the way (to -16). It is nice not having to worry.

Demos are usually a little louder than my normal listening levels.
