Probably been asked a ton, but I haven't found any info on it here. Is there any advantage of going for 5¼ vs 6½? I am attempting to leave work and want to utilize my discount before I quit. I drive a '68 beetle and have no stock mounting location so I'm not biased to pick one over the other. I honestly don't know how long I'll be rolling the beetle (or what I'd buy afterwards).

What I'm thinking about:

Infinity 6012i ~~ $73cdn
Infinity 5012i ~~ $71cdn
MTX TDX6502 ~~ $72cdn

I've heard the 6x9 vs 6½ debate but never 5¼ vs 6½.

Ideas? Thoughts? Just save my cash until I plan to go a little crazier? I don't even have a head unit yet, but I wanted to grab a pair of speakers for the near future at a good price while I still can.

6 1/2 has more surface area = increased volume... bout the only difference i can think of off hand...

6.5's will have better low end resposne. The 5.25's will play down below 80 Hz but not with the authority a 6.5 will.

6.5 mids all the way....Fix this problem once instead of twice by later updating...:D Infinity makes a good mid so does JBL HARMON KARMON= Quality...:p

Looks like I'll give the 6.5 infinity's a listen and pick them up today. I just got back from an interview and will be leaving my current job asap so that means no more discount

Thanks for the info people. I figured it was just a matter of a bit more bass because of the added surface area. No replacement for displacement! It's probably better I went 6.5 for now because I won't be running a sub for a while.

I went in tonight and snatched a pair of 6012i's. They sound better than any car speaker I've heard for under $100 so I'm happy. Nothing too crazy, but they should be decent for my first system.

Now all I have to do is find out where and how I can mount these! No stock locations so it's custom from here.

    Thanks again.
