Both are considered "neutral" in their tone and known for solid build quality.

    I have a B&K ST-202, a late 80's model with 150 wpc @ 8 ohms. It's built like a tank, totally reliable, never fails.

No bells and whistles on my amp, simple internal layout, and huge coke can sized caps. I like B&K's gear, I think they have a warm often referred to as "tube-like" sound.

Their newer stuff seems very good as well. Haven't owned outlaw. If you're looking for brand new stuff, Outlaw seems to have good value. . .but, if you're open to used amps, B&K is, in my opinion, hard to beat.

I would definetly put b&k among the top of the mid-fi class of equipment manufacturer's.

    I've got a B&K Reference 2220 amp, 220 wpc @8 ohms.
It is very heavy, indicative of its quality build. To me it sounds on the warm side of neutral, which is what I need to help balance my Rti's. Never heard an Outlaw amp.

Get your ears on both a B&K and Outlaw and see what you think.

Not to highjack this thread :D

Ern Dog would you mind commenting on the RTi-10 / B&K combination. I am saving my penines for a good used B&K 5 channel amp for my rig. I want B&K because of their warm sound which I think will work well with the RTi's. I have heard a B&K AVR507 with LSI-9s and loved that combination but never with the RTi series. Any feedback is welcome.

I hooked up my B&K 307 to my pair of rti6's one day and I was impressed with the sound quality. Matched with the SVS, I was not left wanting for any bass, mids, or highs.

I chose B&K specifically because it is known for sounding on the warm side. It helped smooth out some of the harsh edges on the top end of my Rti10's. The amp brought the 10's to life compared to running them off my HK reciever. I'm hearing things in music that I couldn't hear before. I never knew that the 10's could dig sooo low. The mids are fuller as well. There is greater separation and more of a sense of 3-D.

I have to agree that B&K is more on the warm side of neutral. Most, if not all of their amps use Mosfet drivers and outputs which tend to give that tube like warm sound. This comes at a very slight cost in clarity. Another good thing about B&K is their factory will still work on just about any of their amps and their rates are very reasonable.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

no comparison B & K all the way. Outlaw, IMO, is strictly an HT amp. The B & K will be much more musical.

I have a AVP5000 hooked into LSi15's and 7's. I am planning to do a shootout between a Rotel RB-890, Aragon 2004 and the B&K soon, you're welcome to bring the RTi's for it as well if you want to hear how they sound with those amps. I have no doubt the Aragon is going to take it but this shootout will determine which amp goes into which setup.

Thanks Sami, let me know when you're going to do the shoot out and I will try to make it. While I don't look forward to schlepping my speakers around I would like to hear them behind an amplifier.
