i just have to post this because its one of the best investments i have made in my a/v journey. i have a windywillys 4in cooling fan atop of my yammie and boy does it work to perfection,....www.windywilly.com...my reciever use to run pretty warm.....now at any volume even at -10dbs..it runs cold to the touch. i think more people shoul invest in a fan to keep their amps and recievers longer. heat is the enemy. it cools it better than the yamahas own fan......

I have two windy willy's and they've been great...I was actually considering buying another only because after about a year now one has gotten a little loud.
They are both off when I listen to two channel but when the family runs the receiver for movies in 5.1 they keep everything cool in the rack - no worries. The Onkyo can get reallllllly hot even with the amp taking care of the mains.

Do you have it mounted to your rack/cabinet and it exhausts the heat out? How is it powered? Via a 12V DC adapter?
Thx,

If excess heat is an issue this is a great idea. Just remember that the components in some amp/rec are designed to operate their best at a certain ambient temp. Believe it or not there is such a thing as over-cooling. You certainly won't damage anything, however in some cases you may actually be diminishing performance by having everything stone cold. Just something to think about.
The tweaker in me just had to throw that comment out there ."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -
