Install in a Saturn Sky

Has anyone seen or done a install in a Saturn Sky? I was over at Crutchfield and they were saying that if you change the radio, you will lose all of the warning chimes. Is this true? I asked a local shop and the guy I talked to said he didn't have any personal experience on a sky. Thanks in advance.

The Sky has only been out since last year. It would all be the exact same for a Solstice

Well it used to be that the instrament cluster generated all the chime sounds. Now GM has removed them from the instrament cluster and moved them else where, if this else where is the radio then yes removing the radio gets you no chimes. I'll check tomorrow at work if it was the radio that now plays the chimes. This change was most likely on all new platforms so even though I never worked on the sky, I have worked on other GM vehicles (instrament clusters) and can see where we send the messages too.

Thanks for the help! It just seems like another way the auto makers are trying to screw the end user into using substandard audio components.

    Hrd,

Not exactly on topic... But how do you like your Sky? I am not big on the Solstice's looks but the Sky looks like a baby C6 Vette IMHO (EG: Hot!) If I could get away with a RWD daily driver in the winter, I think that thing would be on my list!

I haven't bought one yet. My wife is in love with them and I will probably buy one in the future. I am just waiting to pay off my truck before we get another car note. I am asking about the system install since she was so cooperating about me spending money on my truck system and I promised that I would get her a system just as good, if not better than mine.
