Which SVS To Buy?

I'm looking at buying an SVS sub for my system. I've narrowed it down to the 20-39 PCi, or the 20-39 PC-Plus. My listening room isn't that big, and I'm not sure the extra power is worth the money. The room is somewhere around 13'x18' with an 8' ceiling. Suggestions?

I sent an email to SVS, they sent a great resonse, and recommended the Plus, but money is a little tight right now thanks to the ex.

That room size is somewhere under 2000 cu. feet - the Plus will be an excellent choice for you. My advice would be to wait until you can afford the right piece of equipment.

    What are you listening habits?

Have you checked out SVS's B-Stock? You can save some cash by getting bstock.

I purchased a sub from their B-Stock for 150 dollars off retail, and its like new and comes with the same warranty.

If you're set on the PC line, then hold out for the PC-Plus if at all possible. If you can go either way, then check the B-Stock as was said earlier.

I held out for a while because i knew I wouldn't be happy with anything but the top of line model. I wanted the PC line and wound up getting the PC-Ultra.

You'll be very pleased with their subs! I'm loving the hell out of mine!

I have a similar size room at 14x17 8ft ceilings. I am running an SVS PB12-Plus/2 and a Polk PSW 650. Bass is amazing but if I had more cash flow I'd get another SVS over the Polk. I've never heard SVS's cylinder subs but with your set-up and the fact that you want to push your system hard during music...I'd save and wait to get a PB12-Plus/2 or PB12-NSD/2. Just my opinion.

I was in the same situation as you and I ended up purchasing the 20-39PC+ and am glad that I did.

I would suggest you do the same and not look back.

Ditto! dont settle for the lesser model if you dont have to. Buy something that you will not out grow in a year or two...

Heck, I think you'd be happy with the 25-31 pc-plus. The sub goes crazy loud. I dropped in one port plug to tune to 20hz and the level is still barely turned up over 1/4.

    Short answer? Any.

As a general rule, I don't like to see people 'settle' with audio purchases. Stereo equipment is a luxury item. Like jewelry, sports cars, leather jackets, good burboun, etc etc. Why skimp on a luxury item, kind of defeats the purpose, no?

Find one with the features that you want, that fits your budget - and then buy the next most expensive one up the food chain. Stretch it, make it work, sit back and enjoy.

Think more in a long term solution mindset, vs a bandaid that will only cost more with upgrades down the road.

    Cheers,

    Russ,

    Well said Sir!

I've been doing this for years with my audio purchases. My current living conditions don't permit full blown "perfect setup" conditions, but I had the hindsight to base my purchases on long term goals. I'm so thankful I did that. With a home purchase growing ever near, I have the setups (2 systems, one 2 channel rig and a home theater rig) primed and ready to place in that home as soon as it happens late this year or early next year. My 2 channel rig is packed up and in storage in the basement. I also have 2 CS400 center speakers packed away to fill in the rear center channels. Got them both on the cheap years ago.

Think longterm. Where will you be in 3-5 years or even further down the road.

Okay I'm getting a Plus version. What is the difference, benefit fromt eh 20-39 PC-Plus vs the 25-31 PC-Plus? Can't the 25-31 be set to 20Hz?

The 25 will have more volume but won't dig as deep as the 20 in stock configuration. Lowering the 25 to 20 by plugging the ports puts more stress on the amp and less volume than the 20-39 version would have in that area. Honestly, the 25 is probably the best deal of them all unless you're a complete freak. In which case, you'll need dual ultra's

Get the biggest one you can afford! Don't worry about whether or not you may or may not use it and if it's worth getting the bigger one. The answer is YES, it's worth getting the bigger one. There will be a time when you'll wish you had spent the money and got the bigger one.

Again, get the biggest you can afford. I could afford the PC-Ultra and didn't look back.

Exactly what I was thinking. You can eat Top Ramen for a while. You can make your budget just that much bigger if you really want to. And you should. Once you get it, you'll be glad you did.

I just bought a 20-39 CS-Plus yesterday. I've got plenty of powerful amps, so I thought, why not use one for the sub!

I couldn't agree more. I debated back and forth on which SVS sub to get. Finally last week, I ordered the PC-Utra (probably one of their last orders). It was a bit more than I originally planned on purchasing. I got it yesterday and OMG it is freaking awesome!!! That being said, go with more rather than less. The initial cost impact will be greater, but you will save over the long term when you don't have to buy a new sub.
