Greetings all,
Had to de-lurk to express my newfound pleasure in listening to my Polks! I've had SDA-SRS 2s for quite some time but hadn't been listening to them quite as much as I used to - it's been mostly headphones in the office these days. Well, I made the leap to HT this Christmas and hooked up the 2s as fronts, but it wasn't until last night that I "got it" with regard to HT sound. Replaced my NAD 1155/2200 combo with a T762 A/V receiver, added a CS-350LS center and (after realizing that I could in fact use the DVD digital coax out) shortly thereafter was groovin' on the 2s in full-range mode. Don't have many DVDs on hand but the "louder" scenes from LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring were amazing on the 2s - I don't think I'll need an external sub! As a newbie to HT I am definitely in the "addicted to low-frequency content" phase but should calm down in a few weeks.
Now am looking for surround speakers for 5.1 mode. I enjoy using "vintage" components and would like to stay with Polks for consistency's sake so will be researching in that vein. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Club Polk...I hear ya on how good your speakers sound for HT, but if you're getting addicted to the bass, start looking for a sub. That's where the fun is and even full range or close to full range speaks can't handle the peaks the way a decent sub can.
Combo rig:
Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
PB13Ultra RO
BW Silvers
Oppo BDP-83SE -
I'm using SDA 1C's as my fronts, a Csi5 for a center and monitor 5B's as surrounds . Sounds pretty good to me.

I m running a 15 velodyne and Ive had to turn it DOWN ... The 1.2s kick it but for a serious earthquake the 15 has to be going for HT. " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? "

Welcome to Club Polk!
The RTi6's sound good if you still have the metal dome tweeters in the SRS-2's. I would suggest that you replace the tweeters in your SRS-2's with the soft dome tweeter Polks sells. Then get yourself a pair of older RTi35's or RTi38's for surrounds.Carl -
The SRS 2 and the 2.3TL are well kept secrets
Enjoy and Welcome aboard>

Welcome to the club. My 1.2 TLs shake the whole house.

1.2 tl club Allrighty then! I gotta say I just dont know what I was listening to before this, its all starting to become a blur the 1.2s are sooooo clean and clear.
only thing that could be better is to have 3.1s in black for surrounds ( well of course a bigger room too)
To HearingImpaired: which power cords are you partial too? Also VPI line conditioner does that support your Adcoms. Im getting ready to run tfm-35 bi-amping the 1.2s and the monster hts 5000 doesnt have to girth to handle the whole sytem draw in my opinion. " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? As far as I'm concerned any kind will do a good job that are very well shielded and have 10 or larger gauge wire. One that I have on my preamp's outboard power supply is such a heavy guage that to bend it requires a little bit of Hercules. Phil Pearsall gave me that one. I'll find out who the manufacturer was.
I think and don't hold me to this the power cord upgrades on my Adcoms were done by Musical Concepts. They are hard-wired into each mono block. They too are not very flexible. I love the Adcoms and I think the Musical Concept upgrades and power cords are a be contributer to that.
I'm looking to replace the power cords on my turntable and VPI power conditoner. The problem I'm having is that they don't use IECs but are hardwired in. The only power cord upgrade I have been able to find that will let me just splice into the stock cords is from Mapleshade and those friggin things are $150 a pop and I'm not sure if I want them they look very chincy but they have a 30 day guarantee. That would be $300 plus shipping for the two power cords and as much as I believe in good power cords I'm not sure I want to spend that kind of cabbage on them.Deadof_knight wrote:Also VPI line conditioner does that support your Adcoms. The VPI is strickly for turntable motors and I don't believe would handle the power draws required by amps. It maintains 60 hz as well as the voltage. As far as a power center my HTS 5100 Mk II handles everthing I throw at it. I'm still getting at least two 20 amp dedicated lines for the 2 ch rig. -
The two 20 amp legs ...now thats the language Im talking I got extra space in the circuit panel have to do some cable pulls and Im in business. The only thing about getting more power is that you only want more!!!!!!!
strange enough it usaully ends in some sort of demise ..... Guess she has to go ..........................................muhahaha joke honey really !!.... " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? "

I hear ya on the 2 20 amp circuits. I was thinking about running from the panel 10/3 to my amps, and 12/3 for the electronics, and TV. Yes that is up to code. You can use larger Gage wire, but you are supposed to use 20 amp breakers for standard outlets. I would like to build a power conditioner for 30 amp 2 pole outlet (dryer plug) for all my amps. GFA-585, GFA-555, GFA-7500, and GFA-5400 They add up to quite a bit of draw! Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

The power cord connected to my preamp power supply is a SIGNAL CABLE MAGIC POWER, POWER CORD
