So what's the major difference between the 9s and the 15s? Do they sound sonically different above the low range?

I had the 9's for a few weeks, and the 7's for about a year. The 7's were replaced with the 15's. My room is really bad for bass and I run a BFD on my sub to tame some really nasty peaks. Keep that in mind as you read the following.....

imo - the nines have a slight hump in the upper bass, the 15's do not. From about 200hz on up, they are very similar speakers. The 15's will give more presense and impact (comparing to the 7's more than the 9's here).

Personally I like the 15's to be crossed over to a sub so they don't try to handle the deeper bass. The upper bass and lower midrange just sounds better to me that way. (keep my room in mind here)

Spacing from the wall is kind of room dependant. I would say the 9's are more important to get away from the rear wall just due to the rear firing port on them. Placement is just as important with the LSi as with any speaker, but you have to place based on your room and seating postion. What works great in my house may suck in yours. Also keep in mind that many speakers are placed where they look best as opposed to sound the best. As the owner of the speakers - it is easy to forget that, so don't be afraid to ask about other placement when demoing at someones house.

Congrats Solid.... sounds like you found your pie-sucking soul mate. Now just slap that thigh and ride that sonic wave into paradise....

Let us know what you think of the other speakers you get your ear on.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Reasons why the LSi series may not appeal to someone who has never listened to them.
    1. Appearance - not the most important feature of a speaker, but worth an opinion.
    2. I may want to move around a little and experience other Brands.

Using a real world example, you don't have to have sex with a fat girl to know she doesn't appeal to you.

Lol, but you do have to know she's fat, don't you? So if you've been dating a girl and you know she doesn't appeal to you, but have a chance to date her hot sister, wouldn't you at least have a look?

But I understand the need to experience other brands. I love my LSis. But I'm also curious about what I could be missing from roads not taken...;)

If my LSi15s are the fat girl, then the other speakers are runway models about to die of anorexia. The LSi15's are some of the most attractive speakers you can by at nearly any price point (the DefTech mythos are also sleak looking). Thats the main reason I sprung for the LSis. And like a fat girl, the LSI's are anything but shallow; they are loyal, fair and reliable.

This thread may have had a an impact on me as much as it had on you, Squal. See, I'm thinking of getting an amp, and Halo 51 had always been a contender (along with Earthquake Cinenova and Rotel). I am sold on the Halo - now I just have to keep a look out for one.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Talking about wallet or something else?

SolidSqual, gald you got a chance to listen to LSi's, they are worth at least that. I know I love mine (15's and bunch of 7's) and I have heard my fair share of speakers, especially in that price range.

I guess it all depends on whether you are smiling at the end or not....
