Computers or Consoles?

Both categories of systems certainly have their perks, and definitely games that are best played on their brand of system.

For the sake of this poll, we're also ignoring the fact that consoles *are* computers since they aren't really upgradeable and certainly don't run word processing documents.

I'm not asking which system is "better", I'm merely curious to why you picked the system that you did.

I'm sure quite a few of you choose consoles due to the blue-ray or HD-DVD addons available for the systems. So, to further on the line of thought, would you have picked up those systems had they not been available.

I like consoles because they are built just for gaming. The remotes are designed for gaming. Where a PC is acting like a game console, not working as well as a console IMHO.

Both, although I haven't played a game on PC in 2 years. Mostly thanks to XBox Live.

Why isn't it? Most TV's have VGA nowadays and if they don't, adapters will do the trick.

Computers for me, I like to control games with a mouse and keyboard, much easier and more accurate.

BaggedLancer, BF2 happens to be my favourite game ATM as well. I just hooked up pedals so flying aircraft is much easier now.

I only really play Battlefield 2142 and Quake 4 on my computer. Since the next-gen consoles all support backwards compatibility not only are there the games for the system itself but all its last generation titles, so there is a lot more to choose from. Also combined with my home theater gaming in my living room is more comfortable. Although 2560x1600 resolution BF2142 on studio monitors is nice from time to time even if it is only a 2.0 setup but my computer is primarily used for mixing, editing, web, etc.

    Console is $400
    Gaming computer is $2000
In 2 years the best gaming PC is in need of ugrading or replacement.
    I build/fix/uprade PC's for a living, and it just isn't worth it.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I picked both. I prefer the better graphics and intricacy of PC games, but I also often enjoy playing console games on my big screens.

Ok, 1 console can get you up to 7 or 8 years of big budget games that work great. a PC costs far more and only lasts about 3 or 4 years for the big budget games. PC games are great, but only if you have the money.

I had to breakdown and now own both. I prefer computer becuase it is easy to upgrade, but I finally bought a console becuase there is vertually nothing to play on the computer anymore. About the only thing on PC that I am intrested in is Civilization. Now Xbox, they have better sports games. I am not into first person shooters rainbow 6/metal gear type games. I used to enjoy them but to me the replay value stinks.

I love PC games but rarely play them. Too much time in front of the computer makes my wrists/etc... hurt. I'm also tucked away in my studio (otherwise disguised as a spare bedroom...) - alone. With the console - I can be comfortable in bed or out on the couch. I'm not cut off from my wife (and she doesn't mind me playing - especially now that she has her DS). And the controller is amazingly easier to play for a longer period of time.

I bought Oblivion from my pc (because that's worth a bit of isolation - I love the Elder Scrolls games...) - but I can't play for too long at a time - and I could never get a controller to work with it properly... and I really want a beefier pc to run it in higher resolution... (upgrade-itis - generated by games...)

FPS, replay? Multiplayer online is where FPS shines. I don't think I have played through any of the FPS's I have, came close in FarCry but the online play was much more interesting.

I used to be 100% into pc gaming.

after i got an xbox 1, the lines between gaming on my pc vs console were skewed.

Now i play both, but because i have a 61" DLP i play more games on my console's vs my comp.

PC gaming has ZERO chance at party games. Consoles rule there.

First Person shooters and RTS games are the thing that keep me a PC gamer forever.

I agree with most of what's said. There aren't that many party games out there for the PC, and play "hot seat" just doesn't do it for me.

I own a console for that reason alone, but I find most of the games I truly enjoy are on PC. A lot of people don't like the mouse + keyboard combination appealing, but honestly once you get used to it, especially for FPS, there's no going back. Microsoft should be commended for not allowing Halo on console's to multiplayer with the PC version. There would be utter domination if they had.

I also like RTS games, and there's no way a console can play those adequately due to the control schemes.

However, I like my sports games and non FPS action games as well so there certainly is a sinergy between my PC and xbox. In terms of multiplayer, there's simply no-substitute for a PC's abilities. Xbox Live has always impressed me with it's simplicity, but there are downsides to the lack of keyboards and text chat that I've certainly grown accustom to and being able to type something in the midst of a game.

Screen size has never been an issue for me since my machine is hooked up to my 26" widescreen LCD TV which I sit in close proximity to. Only cost me about $500 as well and that was last year.

All that said, nothing beats having some people over and whipping out DOA or UT championship for some great action.

    So, I like both.
