Looks REAL good. Felt like I caught a few glimpses of "2001: A Space Odyssey" in the trailer.

I'm looking foward to this one myself, the soundtrack sounds great from what you can hear on the trailer, gives it a really intense feeling.

I cannot find a closest theater as Fandango.com does not let you search for movies unless you know the zip code.

I've got the DVD of Sunshine from another region... and man, this movie is awesome. It starts off with the same mood of awe and wonder that 2001 had, then turns sideways into horror toward the end. Freaking fantastic 5.1 audio, and the visuals are jaw-dropping. Outstanding performances all the way around, including Chris Evans (Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four), who I have always disliked.

To my knowledge, there's not a Region 1 release date yet.

I thought it was extremely slow up until the very end. Good acting and had a crazy 2001 deja vu feeling to it for me. Everything seemed like it could be real to the touch. One and only complaint was lack of seat thrills.

    Dave

PS i watched it online, no idea when it will hit our shores.
Once again we meet at last.

Reviews were mixed.Like I care because I love science fiction.
Boyle said his ambition was to create a new vision of science fiction, and he quickly realized Solaris/2001 where hard to trump...so he paid homage to them.

I rented and watched it last night after the ball game, I can't say that I liked it, but I didn't hate it either, one thing I can say for it is it that it's a very intense movie, especially the parts out side the main ship. Definitely one I'll have to watch again, might even pick it up on Blu-ray later on.

And BTW, some of the visuals are amazing, I especially like the parts with the solar shield all lite up.

Interesting flick... very well done... kept me intrigued throughout. Worthy of a rental. Can't really say much more than that without giving too much away.

I liked it. Kinda reminded me of The Fountain feeling, which isn't a bad thing.

    SPOILERS SPOILERS

Watched this last night. Nice video and sound. I kind of agree with the Fountain feeling thing....which I am happy to know that at least one other person liked The Fountain (awesome soundtrack)....but, so many things in Sunshine were so hard to follow...make me think...ok....but like, the extra man at the end.....the captain from the other ship? how did he get on board? how did everyone get on the bomb portion of the ship at the end? why is it -214 C outside the ship but the sun burns everything up....I really wanted to love this movie....but I don't know...don't like to think I have to watch with commentaries to get it....

here, I'll help where I can:

Yes it was the captain, he went throught the airlock and then messed up the two ships so noone could follow him.

The bomb? The girl went immediately when the engineer went after the "sun guy". Then the engineer airlocked out and went inside. No idea how the former captain got in unless he figured out a way to get past the locked doors.

It's -214 since there is no medium for heat to travel to the body, once exposed to the sun, you cook

I buy it all....forgot about the airlock issue...that's the problem of watching a movie and thinking about college basketball....thx

jd: have you listened to commentaries? if so, are they any good, sciencewise? I also wondered about getting a ship with the mass of Manhattan (if I heard right) off the ground.....I know it is science FICTION....

Neil and MrNightly I too liked and wanted to understand Aronofsky's "The Fountain" more. Enough to dig up this nice little thread that enhanced another viewing of it.
The original and following posts there are interesting but this one is my favorite and leaves very little or no loose ends IMO.

You don't have to get the ship off the ground in one piece. Think about the international space station-You pbring small parts, assemble it in orbit and then take off. I didn't see anything but the movie, I was on an airplane on the little seatback screens when I saw it.

The movie was great and Danny Boyle is one of the best directors out there right now. 28 Days Later has to be one of the best horror movies of all time in a genre that causes far more laughs than it does scares these days.

I'm not a big Sci-Fi guy, but Sunshine really had me drawn in the entire time.

Can't wait to see what else he comes out with. He's come a long way since Trainspotting.
