Anyone tried SACD capability on the PS3?

I was curious as to whether anyone had tried it. Also what sort of requirements are there to play them back? (interconnects, compatible receiver?)

Does the PS3 have an SACD decoder?

Of course the big question is whether you can get the sacd playback over anything other than hdmi. No analog outs. From my experience with dvd-a you can't get it to pass it over optical. I'd be curious to know the requirements too.

I'm also curious about that. On most SACD players it's actually only sent out via 5.1 analog outputs, no digital at all.... does the PS3 have such outputs?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

The advance since we all bought our sacd/dvd-a players has been hdmi. Before, there was no way to copy protect the digital signal over optical, so they forced everyone to use the analog outs of the player.

Now, it appears that passing a digital signal is possible over hdmi. Although the different versions give you more options.

Basically what I get from a quick read is that HDMI 1.1 allows sacd multi-channel over pcm to the receiver. But this is via decoding and conversion in the ps3. HDMI 1.3 allows the passing of a DST digital signal to the receiver (just like it does true HD and dts-hd signals) for decoding there. And I'm assuming they will make receivers that can handle the DST signal when the 1.3 components come out.

So good quality should be possible now by passing pcm over hdmi 1.1. But if you get hdmi 1.3, you get a possible upgrade path to better decoding on the receiver side. At least that's what I got out of the quick read...
