Hi all,
I am a newbie here so please bear with me.
I have an Onkyo TX-SR674 receiver hooked up to:
1. Fronts - Monitor 70
2. Surrounds - Monitor 40
3. Center - CS2
4. Sub - PSW12
When I ran the receiver's speaker auto-setup program (Audyssey 2EQ), it set all speakers (Front, Surr, Center) to "FullBand" and the LPF/LFE to 120Hz. Is this the optimal setting for my speakers? Are the Monitor 40 and CS2 speakers supposed to be run full bandwidth? Should the LPF for the sub be set at 120Hz or lower? Can I improve on this setup? The setup sounds great currently, just curious if this is the best I can do.

Auto EQs are noted for doing strange things to speaker setup. Just go back and change all the speakers to small and cross them at 80 hz...or, the M70s can probably run full range without a problem or cut at 60 or 40 (if the receiver offers multiple crossover selection by channel). Experiment with it. Whatever sounds best...

I agree... I would probably try 80hz on everything but the 70's. With those I would experiment with 60Hz or possibly 40Hz. You'll probably find that they blend rather seamlessly with your sub when running in two-channel (even when setting them to small). Or go full range...

Or disregard this post because I really think I'm just repeating everything Ron just said:D

    In which case,

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

    Hi Ron and Zombie,
Yes, the receiver has the ability to set crossover selections by channel - I am thinking - center and surround to 60 Hz, Mon.70s to Full Bandwidth and the Sub at 80Hz. Thanks for your answers.

Set the cross on the sub to off or all the way up. The crossover settings in the receiver will handle the LFE cuts.

    Welcome to CP :)

Sorry - I meant 80Hz for the surrounds + center, Full bandwidth for the fronts and 80Hz for the sub.
    Thanks.

    Hi Ron,
For a moment I was confused about your comment - I was thinking of the receiver setting whereas I think you mean the crossover dial on the back of the sub - Yeah, I have it turned 3/4 to full but if I were to turn it "off", wouldn't the sub not respond to any output from the receiver ( I could check when I get home) ?

I'm not talking about volume or gain on the sub, but the crossover knob or switch on the sub's amp. Usually it's a variable knob starting at 40hz going to 120hz or higher. You want to disable the crossover on the sub to avoid cancellation with the receiver's crossover. There will either be an option to disable the sub's crossover or you turn the knob all the way up to it's highest setting (thus it doesn't interfere with the receiver crossed below it). Hope this clears it up.

    G'luck
