help! im new at this! just hooked up my new rm6880 polk 5.1 speaker system to my new pioneer elite vsx-80txv reciever. sub on polk system has hook ups for speaker wire inputs, but my receiver only has a component jack for sub output. i dont want to hook up other speakers to my sub, i just want to use it as a sub. it has component jacks for both left and right. So do i have to hook up two component cables? i think there is only one component subwoofer jack on the back of my receiver! Thanks for your help!

Time to pull out he manual to be sure. I have the same receiver, and I'm betting you can hook it up to the left surround back. Now I can't do that because I'm using my surround back for a second zone, but I seem to remember reading that. There may be crossover issues, but that's something else. It seems to me they addressed everthing else, I'm sure that's covered too.
The component out is for a powered SW.
Edit, I saw that the 6880 has a powered sub, dunno. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
manual seemed to be a little shy on detail to me.
i am planning to use a second zone.
it is a powered sub. still stumped. -
time for customer support.
edit..
This might help too.

You have a sub/sat system. Does the manual suggest Base Management ? Are you wiring your speakers as suggested by Polk ?Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K AVR
Polk RTi4 surrounds
Polk CS300 center
Polk RTi8 fronts

Well the best way to hook up that system is to use the speaker level hook up. The reason is there is a non-defeatable filter in the subwoofer that is preset for that sub system. With this configuration make sure you set your speaker configuration menu properly. Set the front L and R speakers to LARGE, center and surrounds, SMALL. Subwoofer = NO and crossover frequency = 120 Hz.
If you use the "sub out" cable, the signal will be double filtered and a little bit of the signal will be lost, on the upper end of the subwoofer. If you need to use the sub out method, use all speakers = small, subwoofer = on and crossover frequency 120 Hz.
If your house is already prewired for the single LFE then it leaves you little choice, but if possible to do the speaker wire method this will give you the best sound.-Eric

Willow, I learned from the best. Thought I'd beat you to this one. lol
djkramer, I too felt compelled to hook the sub directly from the sub out of the receiver. It's tempting and appears unorthodox ,but once you understand the concept of Base Management, you will understand why.
Check out these links and read carefully. Try it. You will be surprized.

edit: Maybe I should have asked. Why do you not want to hook up your 2 fronts to the sub?Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K AVR
