I have a receiver and DVD player that each have 5.1 multi channel and optical connections. Which would be the prefered connection?
I currently don't use the sub-woofer connection on the receiver. I use the front speaker input terminals on the sub-woofer.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I was going to say welcome to the forum...but you've been around for 4 years....I guess it took you a while to formulate the question
It all depends on what tou want; if only movies (DD, DTS), I wouldn't spend the extra cash on the additional interconnects. If you want to play formats that require analog outs (SACD), you'll need to use the multi channel outputs from the DVD._________________________________________________

Ditto
The only thing I would like to add is at least get a good set of interconects for the 2 main channels for music. At least get Kimber PBJ's

If your DVD player has decoding features that your receiver lacks, or if you player has significantly better digital/analog converters than your receiver, then you would benefit from the analog connections. Also, for copyright protection, you usually can't copy from a digital source. Most receivers have digital and analog audio on completely different buses, so if for some reason, you wanted to make an analog recording onto a VCR or casette player of a DVD or CD playing on your DVD player, you would need at least the L and R analog connections between your player and receiver.
