looking to get a some bookshelves and these two seem to fit the bill. Which one sounds better for 2.0/2.1 audio. I tried using the search function and got nada.

Both speakers will certainly need a subwoofer to carry the low end. I personally would probably take the R15's based on their price and availability, but clearly style is the only real differentiating element.

Both are easy to drive, take a decent amount of energy. Outpost.com often lists them for under $100 shipped for a pair, and same with Fry's.

Honestly, I'd really think about going all the way to the top of the ladder and grab the LSi 9's. You can get them used for around $450-$500 and are certainly one of the best sounding monitor's I've ever heard. The best part is that you don't need to invest money into a subwoofer for music (though, of course, home theater applications you will), though a decent amplifier is certainly a must if you want to get the best out of them.

I don't know what your requirements/budget are, so these are just general examples of where I would go from here.

If you're not limited to bookshelves, I'd honestly think of grabbing a pair of R30's or M20's if your funds are limited. They sound similar, are inexpensive (around $120 shipped when on sale) but have the added improvement of a decent sized box, so bass response is much improved. Being 8 ohms, they're also easy to drive and image quite well for entry level speakers.
Lovin that music year after year.

He asked about R15's and M10's, and the recomendation is $1149 Lsi9's and a seperate amp? Only at club Polk...

    Sigma,
The only difference between R15's and M10's is cosmetic. Personally, between the two, I would go for the R15's. You can get them at Outpost for $49:

Now now, I made a comment on how I didn't know what his budget was and it's my obligation to tell him what he can do if he really wants to. I then told him my personal opinions of the two different speakers, and suggested the R15 for the exact same reason you gave.
