H/K EasyEQ

Ok. I'm frustrated again. I moved furniture around a little bit and thought I would recalibrate and rerun the EasyEQ....just because. Well now the problem I originally had before I last calibrated came back... Highs are crystal clear, bass is tight and digs deep...sound is generally warm or laid back, but vocals, whether in 2 channel or center stage in a movie sound like they are coming from behind the wall (sort of) There is a "mid bass bloat" as I called it before.
Anyway.... I found a great thread here that linked somewhere else that told how to completely reset the H/K then a modified easy set routine (volume different from the directions and mic in a more specific location for near field measurements), but I can't find it!! Anybody know what I am talking about?
By the way.... the DTS track in Pearl Harbor is awesome.

You can do a much better job with an SPL meter, and manually adjusting Each speaker with the EZ option.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I'm not talking about simply spl calibration. There is also a room EQ function that evidently didn't go so well when I ran the test. It normall does wonders for bass equalization.HT

I also have an HK AVR but I thought the EQ function only worked on the center channel? Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. No Benji, she works all the way around. I find it's a feature that works very well not only for channel / distance level, but also EQ based on room characteristics.
Go through following the link I provided above and let us know if it makes your system sound any better, worse, or same.

Good luck.
I just recalibrated to that guys guidance (minus the tripod) and cured my issues. I'm really impressed with how it tightens the bass up.
I'm going to borrow somebody's tripod and try again to see if everything gets set the same.
The biggest different I was was between holding the mic 3' above ear level (which is what the software recommends) and at ear level. I also need to get my hands on a meter to measure where I am really at, but there was a 3db difference in settings of the channels.HT

After reading that link again, I decided to order the mic & extension arm from HK (52$). When I bought my HK it was a floor model and didn't include it. I'll post my results soon. I love the idea of it having a built in room adjustment EQ.

I just completed the easy eq calibration with the mic and noticed 2 dramatic differences.
1) The low bass is gone. Songs that usually rattled my house are now much tamer. Not sure if I like that or not- I think Not .... but will sit with it for a few days to see. Also it set my sub to +10 db. I think I'll turn the gain up on the sub and re-run it.
2) There is less bright glare on the highs. I definetly like this.
With the automatic eq settings, it is all or nothing. I'll give it a few days to let it gel. -

I ran mine with the sub gain at 12:00. It set my sub at -4. After running the setup, you can go in a tweak to your liking and all that changes is what you tweak. Mine set the crossovers to my RTi70's at 40hz, which I promptly raised to 80. Then I raised the sub setpoint 5db higher, since I like a little heavier bass. What resulted was very tight, accurate bass from the sub that blends very nicely with the crossover point of the RTi's.HT

Well it has only been a day, but I can already tell that music sounds smoother. The mids are more present and bright highs toned down and the bass is more controlled. I tweaked my sub so that I still get the lows that I love- it is just tighter now. My sub gain is also at noon.
The internal EQ has only peaked my interest in knowing what an external 20 band professional EQ would be like. -
Question: Why does the HK manual say to run the ez eq at volume -28, but the on screen display says to set volume at -35? This is weird- I used -35.
-
????I've used both. I thought i got better results from -28, but who knows what difference it makes.HT
