Slow work but it's getting done.

Speaker wiring / control BlueJean cable 12/2 belden.

Niles speaker volume control with IR and auto on / off, I like this control. Working HK PA2000 amp, pre Adcom GTP-500 gives me a light of green or red on the control to tell me if the system is on or off. IR will remote control pre amp which will turn amp on or off. Sweet. ;)

Work as been really slow as this needs to been done with 2 people every boards needs to been in place first. This can be a fun time as some boards are wrapped and getting them to line up is a 2 person job. I don't think I would do this work over the drywall ceiling as I need to know where to nail, the nails need to be 1 1/2 in the wood, so we are using 2" nails so if over drywall needs to be 2 1/2" nails anyway. But do to the way I did this a 11' 6" board may only have 4 nails holding it in place, so we need to know if we are lined up with the ceiling joist above.

So far about 20 hours in to this project so far.

I always prefer to use screws vs nails for wood; takes a bit more time and might be just a little bit more expensive, but gives me peace of mind..

Screws wouldn't work as the nail is at a 45 degree angle so in an small area which is hard to see when the next board is placed. I don't have any fear of this ceiling as the board them self may weight 7 lbs if that and are only about a 1/2" thick.

I just hope you don't get board with it all. :p Cherry finish would look nice, but I also like the natural look you have now.

As you can see blind nailed, small nail overall. Screw too big not able to counter sink down, board a bit too thin.

Well at least this side is done.

    4i5gyli.jpg

Picture showing 90 degree I was talking about. Or 45 degree the other direction.

    4i5gyli.jpg

Close up of this the ends are cut with Router for that 45 degree edge.

Well other than that we decided to go dark for the stain. Cherry was just too light for me.

Steve, I did this to my last house I sold 3 years ago, I had 5 offers of asking price in 4 days. Sold it then my wife and I just about panicked over the fact we had a closing date and not another house to move in yet. In the end it worked out but yes it makes a difference something real nice when complete.

Will you paint the paneling or perhaps stain and seal?

I think it would be quite nice stained and polyed.

Well the clarifier it's Tongue & Groove board 1X6" so not paneling. I will be a Behr transparent cappuccino stain a dark brownish red, then maybe polyed. I'm unknown about being polyed as of yet I have to see how it looks after staining.

It will look nice with a dark stain....would reflect light nicely with a couple of coats of poly on it as well.

Make sure you post the final product!

Wouldn't it be easier to stain them and whatnot while they're not above your head?

I don't think there is a difference, indoor or outdoor unless you bought something specifically for a deck with some sort of anti mold chemical. Typically they are oil based or water based if I recall. Although you may be able to specify a stain with a UV blocker that will resist fading, which may help. Best bet to keep the color pure is to use a UV blocking polyurethane over the stain. But however you go, it should turn out quite nice.

    Good luck!

Looking good Steve! You can use any stain if you are going to put some poly on over top. I would recommend the poly coat with the humidity in your area.

The Payphone is a real cool factor! Hang it up and leave it for a couple of days before doing the permanent fastening. It is bigger than you think and it might be an obstacle to foot traffic. Just my $0.02. Good luck!

Ok understand I was thinking outdoor also, but when you said poly over it I thought you were talking indoor. Not thinking poly was also made for outdoors.
