I'm getteing ready to pull the trigger and get th Lsi15's and an amp. Reading different threads, I see these are very placement sensitive. I have one place I can put these speakers. They will go on either side of my TV approx. 5-1/2 feet from each other, set twords the corner but the sides will not be blocked. The room is 12 x 25 and I will sit about 22 feet from the speakers face.
I love the way they sound in the store, but will my placement be an issue?

This is my NEXT to last;) upgrade. In the end the set-up will consist of the 15's of an amp, lsic off an amp, lsi7 rears off recv., my sub will be done as soon as work lets up. I'm just trying to make sure I'm heading in the right direction considering the short comings of the room.

Michael, I would think that you would be siting to far away...Room treatments...such a long room... Sounds like you are going to have fun!

AT 25 ft long, it sounds like your room has long-comings, not short-comings.

You should have a great setup going once the Lsi15s are in and the sub is completed. Looks like you've been prudent in your efforts, and I'm sure they'll be paying off soon.

Where'd you go for the 15s, if you don't mind me asking?

I agree. Is there a way to sit closer? If not, your surround sound won't sound surround. Also, can you spread the speakers out more than 5.5 ft.?

Got any pics of the room?

A bit off topic but one kind of amp are you considering? I am in the peripheral amp market and I have 4 hungry 15s and a C to drive. My HK is crying.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Glad to hear you are getting the 15's (and an amp). Are you getting a 3 channel amp (to run your future center off of) or just a two channel?

Placement will not be ideal, but I assume that is similar to what the placement is with your 7's now so you should know what to expect. I have my 15's about 7 feet apart in the corner of the room with the backs almost touching the wall. (since they are facing out of the corner - the fronts are a foot or two away from the wall) It is not ideal, but I cross them over to my sub (which is equalized with a BFD) at 80hz so I don't get zinged to bad with extra bass energy.

I would say you will be fine, but depending on how far the sides are from the side walls, you may not want to run them full range. (at least experiment)

The amp you choose will make a big difference in the sound. What are you looking at?

How are your 7's holding up, still enjoying them I assume? With that big room, you will notice more impact from the 15's. I sure did.

    Michael

BTW - You can see my setup by clicking on the quote in my signature. It is about the same as what you are setting up.

Maybe I was just lucky, but I haven't noticed any placement problems with my LSi15s. I too found that about 7 feet between speakers sounded best.

You can always fix bad speaker placement with bass panels. I have the lsi9s that i have to place about 15 inches off the wall which makes the bass sound boomy. After adding bass banels between the wall and my speakers, they now sound a lot tighter. If the 15s are too close to the walls, just add some bass panels... my favorite are the mondo traps from realtraps.com

McLoki, still loving the 7's. they sound great but I think the 15's will fill the room nicely. I'm looking for used amps. If I don't get a 3 channel, I will probably go with a used Parasound and an Outlaw 2200 for the center.

Andy, I'm looking for used 15's but if I don't find a good deal with in the next month, I will just hit Tweeter and buy new.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

In the 1000.00 range for used. I am a deal hunter though so I'll take my time and find a good deal.

    Sunfire Cinema Grand - 200x5 - $995
    Aragon 8008 - 200x3 - $1100
    Aragon 8008 - 200x3 - $1095
    Adcom GFA-7500 - 150x5 - $625

There is also a cinepro similar to mine on sale for $1500. I did not link to it since it is so far over your budget, but they don't come up for sale that often and I can safely say it may be the last amp you need to buy. 350x6

No affiliation to any of the amp sales, just wanted you to see what was available (for now and from one place) in your price range.

Enjoy and let us know what you end up with.

Michael, thanks for the heads up. As soon as work lets up some I'm going to take the time to audition some before I commit to buying. There is a small shop not to far from me that sells used high end equipment I want to check out.
