MapleSoft

Anybody use any MapleSoft products? In our labs from PreCalc through Differential Equations we use MapleSoft's Maple 10. It's a very capable program but it also has a pretty dadburn steep learning curve; and everytime I have a break between math classes I forget what I had learned.

At any rate, I'm seriously considering buy a copy for my computer so I can use it for homework and become more familiar with it...and perhaps enhance my learning of math concepts.

Will the student version be as capable as the version we have at school? I'm going to ask some people at school, but my instructor doesn't know. We use the vector calculs package (with(VecCalc)); would the student version include that?

I guess this is really a stab in the dark, but I was wondering; thought I'd ask. Seems like ~$140 isn't really that much for such a powerful program.

It should do the trick for most of the stuff you want to do. The student copy might miss a couple of the more advanced features, but should be able to do everything you're doing just fine. Honestly, if I were you, I'd grab a Ti-89 before I'd pick up the software. It's about the same price but a lot more intuitive and has the power of portability. I used it when I was taking math up through set theory without a hitch.

If you really want a powerful math program that'll hold you over however, no matter the math, grab yourself a copy of Mathematica. You pay a fair amount for it, but you know it's worth every penny.

Wow, someone actually chimed in with some input; thanks!

I've been thinking about it, and I think I'm going to go ahead with Maple. I really can't see using a TI-89 over Maple...a small little black & white screen vs. a big color screen, plus I won't be able to use the TI-89 much in my classes anyways, and I already have a TI-84.

I'll ask around at school and see if they have any deals or promo codes or anything, but I think I'll end up getting Maple.

Alright! I'm ecstatic! I'm sitting here in the Student Lounge at school, on my laptop, playing with Maple! :D

I ordered it Monday morning around 9 o'clock or so....it was sitting on the counter when I got home Tuesday at 9pm. And it shipped from Ontario, Canada.:eek:

    That's some great service!

I just finished downloading the Vector Caclulus package for it from Texas AMU. Now I can do everything we're doing in class! :D

Now I find myself wanting a TI-89 in addition to Maple, but a friend gave me a program that lets my TI-84 graph functions in 3D, so that should hold me over for a while. Maybe I'll look into HP's graphing calculators. I've heard they put TI's to shame in every respect.

My school invented your math program :D

TI-89 is gods gift to math, unfortunately NONE of my math classes have ever let me use mine on tests...

Haha, sweet. Man, I guess y'all have come busy instructors. This math program, and didn't you say one of the professors there is the one who came up with C? Or Java? Or something or other.
