I know this has been covered before directly or indirectly but hasn't everything else These are NOS and readily available on ebay everyday of the week so don't rush out and pay more than $40 per tube. There must have been millions of them made because they were so popular. Here comes solid state and these gems are left over for the rest of us to enjoy. The smooth plates are the most popular with the <> stamped/engraved on the bottom. I bought the Fisher branded ones and saved a few bucks but they're supposed to be the same tube.
Review: more airy, more tubey, more analogish, more lively. Sorry I'm not the greatest review writer

Cool. Glad you like 'em.
What component are you using them in?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

$40 per tube for NOS Tele ECC83s is very cheap if they are genuine. There is said to be a lot of "Telejunk" on ebay these days, ie, relabled fake Tele tubes. It sounds like you are happy with these. I have one pair of Tele ECC83s and would love to get some more. Mind telling us who you got them from?

The Audio Experience (AE) Symphonies pre that I bought from unc2701 over a year ago now. -

The user was walden-puddle and they have a ebay store:

They sound nos but I don't know all the tricks that are out there. -
Cool. Those are my fav X7 so far. The bass extension is amazing and has great clarity from the mids to highs.
What you got is most likely a used tube that still tests good or new. Great way to get some nice tube cheap. A lot of my 6dj8/6922 are used but still test strong. $40 for NOS is a steal if they're nos. NOS usually go >$100/tube -
The ASL-20's use one 12AX7 each; I just got a pair of Ei Elites (and Sovtek 5881's for power...the stocks didn't get to the bias values any more). Is the function of the 12A?7 in a power amp similar to that of a preamp in terms of signature definition? I think I will keep these for some time, maybe upgrade some caps...but need some input for tube rolling.
Sorry for the hijack:o_________________________________________________

If your ASL is a push pull design, the tube is probably used as a splitter to seperate the +ve and -ve portions of the signal. The way I see it, if there's a tube in the signal path, it will add its own signature along the way.

I'm glad you brought this up because I didn't know what to call a used tube that's not being made anymore if there is such a word. Mine were used of course and not New Old Stock which I assume is what NOS means. Used out of production I guess would have been a good description. -
View this as a joke. Many months ago, when I bought my very first integrated tube amp, I bought some used tubes and a few NOS from the same retired electrician. Since the tubes and the boxes were so dirty, I decided to clean them up, and I didn't know the silk screen was that easy to wipe out. Guess what, all the tubes were shinely, but I had no way to tell what they are any more!!! Lately, I went back to the batch and found some with the <> in the bottom, I can tell some are 6DJ8 as they have very distinct structure; however, I have no way to tell what the ? is from some 12A?7. I learned that the Tele 12AT7 has short plate, so I think they are either 12AU7 or 12AX7 rib plate, but that's all I can conclude :-)

Thanks. I will check them out.
