A little help on sub cables please.

I'm opening up my walls this week to run surround cables. I have 10b's in a 13x20 room, and I don't feel the need for a sub right now, BUT, just in case someday I want one, I want to place a sub cable while the walls are open.
Are powered sub cables just regular rca jack connecting cables, or are they coax with rca connectors? I understand they're passing a low frequency signal, but I want to use what's best.
I really don't want to have to open up these same holes for 3rd time, so I'd like to do it right.
Thanks in advance for answering a noob question.

It's a regular coax cable with rca ends.
For fun I've made my own with leftover coax cable and some screw-on RCA ends... -

Can you use a regluar RCA cable and use that for a subwoofer cable. I just want to hear my sub today. And I ordered my cables from Signal but they are not to be here until next week. I was just wondering if you can just split the R and L rca cable and just use one of them? I cant wait thats why. Is it going to break anything?

Yes, you can use a regular RCA interconnect. It won't hurt anything.

Willow, I'm in Dallas, TX. Nothing but Cowboy boots, hats, steer roaming the streets, etc. A day in my life is pretty much like watching Urban Cowboy.
Actually, a couple of my consultants are from Canada and we were laughing about stereotypes over lunch today. That's why I chimed in with the wise-crack. . . fresh on my mind.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

Andrew, it's all good.....
As for the cable I made..Yes screw on types to a left-over long piece of coax cable had lying around the house....As far as an accident...the only thing I could see happen is that I **** my finger on the coax or the sound cuts out...other than that....It was an experiment that lasted ohhhh about 3 days. -
Since subs tend to pick up hum (and have a longer cable run) sub cables are often a little better sheilded than standard RCA cables. If I was going to run one in a wall, I would get an actual sub cable, but in a pinch - standard RCA interconnnect cables work just fine.

The dreaded hum...Hmmmmm.
Out of curiosuty and because of what I do at work, has anyone tried to run a ground wire off the ring of an rca connector to a ground point to try to eliminate hum? We use a lot of shielded cable at work, and I'm figuring it should work the same way, but being new and all..........
In retrospect I'm thinking a standard interconnect wouldn't work (you'd probably just be grounding out the signal, if the ring is connnected to anything at all), but if you're using coax I think might. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
Actually,I've used a standard audio I/C ,well, not exactly standard,to get rid of hum from 2 SRT subs, and it not only worked,it tighten up the bass. But for inwall,a well shielded cable is needed.HT SYSTEM-
