Andy Roddick vs. Roger Federer

This should be a great match. It seems Andy has really brought his game to a new level.. Maybe, just maybe, the whole Jimmy Conners thing is helping?!..

I believe the match starts @ 7:30p.. Not too sure of the channel yet, but if I had to guess, I would say ESPN2 or possibly USA?..

Any thoughts on this match? Andy just beat Roger in a scrimmage type warm-up in Melbourne before the Aussie Open started.. Who knows, maybe he can bring some well earned confidence into this match and this may be Andy's year to take Roger down in a Grand Slam.

I would never, ever, never, ever bet against Federer... Conners has done much to improve Roddick's game (most notably his mental approach), but the boy still gets rattled. Roger is a machine in mind, body, and spirit.

btw have you ever gone to the ATP Master's tourney in Mason, OH?
I used to go every year, but stopped about five years ago.

You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Well history would make both of you correct, but I have a feeling about this match tonite.. Ive watched every hour of televised coverage of the Aussie Open this year.. Seems to me Andy's coming into this match with a different attitude than with past matches with Roger.. Albeit, Federer has won 12 of 13 official matches against Roddick.. I guess we shall see tonite. I know I will be routin' for Andy!!

Definitely can't bet against Federer, but I will be rooting for Roddick.

Are those times Australian time? I know most of the matches we see in USA are tape delayed.

Also, why hasn't any of the Australian Open been in HD? I wanted to watch Sharapova last night and the stupid thing was in standard def, even on the HD channel :(
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Yeah, I know most of the Open has been on ESPN2. My local cable guide says tonight's coverage begins at 9:30PM, but it also says that's the Women's Singles.... so who the eff knows.

Cant go wrong with that.. Id have to say this is the only sport in which I can watch women play without wanting to take my own life!! Nah, just kidding.. I can watch beach volleyball too! Well, maybe the Sharapova match will be on tonite.. Rest assured I want to see this as much as the next guy, but Im filled with much more anticipation with the Roddick/Federer match.. Ill probably set my alarm for 315 am, get up, and check out whats on ESPN2.. I like to catch the match live if at all possible as not to have it spoiled by Sports Center in the morning...

Well, I fell asleep in third set, but Roddick was getting smoked.. Baring some kind of effin' miracle he got is a$$ whipped.. Federer may well be the best tennis player ever.. I know Sampras has the most Grand Slam wins; however, Federer is well above his pace.. If he continues to play who knows just how many this man can win.. Absolutely phenomenal!

You think this is the year he pulls off the Grand Slam?

Andy or Roger? And what exactly do you mean? Win all four?

If Roger, it wouldnt suprise me a bit. If I am not mistaken he's already completed that.. Or was it 3 of 4.. Nonetheless, the man is unreal, and an absolute pleasure to watch.. Sometimes I think he can be a little cocky with pre/post match comments, but I really dont think he even knows he comes off that way.. Possibly it is just total confindence.

Come 'on Ten... you know what that means. I believe Graf was the last to do it, but I may be mistaken. Sampras could always manage three, but the French was the bane of his existence.

This time of the year the subject of winning The Grand Slam (not to be confused with a Grand Slam) always comes up...

Also known as The Golden Grand Slam if you win the Olympics Gold that year (which Steffi did)...
Rocket Rod Laver was the last man to win The Grand Slam (and he did it twice...)

The French has been a difficult win for anyone but Spaniards and clay-court specialists (usually European)...

The last true number one to actually contend in the event (and win a couple) was Courier. Though it should be noted that Agassi has won it once..

Correct you are sir! I totally forgot about Nadal.. Not too often you actually find someone that likes tennis.. Pleasant suprise.. Did you have any Nike Agassi's when you were a kid?? LOL, you know I did. Did you play in high school or anything? Just a fan?

Played in high school all four years... went to state in doubles. Tried to play Division III college, but was too short (5'9'') with a dated baseline game ala Chang. I'd put my two-handed backhand against anybody at that level. It was my serve and volley which was dreadful. I grinded a lot of people down in high school. In college, I was too overmatched to hang like that..

Huge tennis fan, but I feel the sport is losing its way. My favorite player was always Todd Martin. When he retired, I found myself watching just a wee bit less.. Still follow and watch though.
