Do the RTi8's and move the 6's to the back for an awesome 5.1. If you have a good sub the 8's are great for music and movies. Some will say the
8's are too "bright", but with the proper sub I think they are amazing for the money. I just got better cables hooked up and the difference is amazing. For that size room and cost/benefit I'd do the 8's.

just an update on this thread....

Since the beginning of this thread, the RTi6 is in the storage, got a pair of RTi10 now. The FX500i was just removed and replaced with a pair of FXi5, the NHT subs has been replaced with a Velodyne DSP-12 (something like that)

Everything sounds warmer than before. Just need to save up for a new AVR.

I bought the rti6s and rti8s to compare them. The rti8s created more sound. More realistic surround. The rti6s were more one dimensional. Rti8s were better for music and movies. More realistic reproduction of the sound.
    I kept the rti8s!

The center speakers are now pointed down toward's the sitting area. The dining table was moved to the dining room and a sofa was added to the family room.

I also got rid of the 50" Plasma for a 47" 1080p LCD and build an HTPC.

The sub was moved from the back corner of the room to the front side now.

Take a look at my last pix, the rear are mounted on the back wall. However with it mounted correctly, right speaker on right and left on left, the driver is actually pointing away from the sitting area, especially with the speaker on the left, the sound is bouncing off the wall while the other side goes straight into the kitchen. Should I reverse it and have the driver point towards the sitting area?

Should I set it to Dipole or Bipole?

For your room it will probably be an improvement. And one of your FXI's doesn't have a sidewall to reflect anything - that would be a concern for me if it were my setup. Just my opinion.

IMO, upgrading equipment or changing equipment with that kind of room layout will be a waste of $$$. I don't think you need to change the gear, I believe it is the room that needs to change.

Are you planning on retiring in this house or is this....in the whole grand scheme of life, a "temporary" pad?

I'll be in this house for a few more years at the min.

I already have my next house in my head, there will be a fish room so I can have a ginormouse reef tank and a room long enough with 4 walls where I can have a projector instead of an LCD. :)

keep the gear, that gear will hold you down nicely for a long time. I agree, its a tough room for audio but if it just temp you'll be fine. In the meantime, you now know to consider having a dedicated room in your next home. Happy listening bro.

Floorstanding. Easier to place and full sounding.
