what should i go with. i don't care that i have to put the dayton together, i enjoy doing that kind of stuff. my psw303 does a good job at what it does, so im thinking the psw505 should be great, but polk is not especially known for their bass. the specs for the dayton seem to be a better bang for the buck and more dynamics. anybody ever own either?

I owned the PSW505. It sounded ok. I didn't like the foam surround. I bought an SVS PB12-plus. I like it for movies. No experience with Dayton.

Because the Dayton Titanic series of subs are great performers and a big bang for the buck. The 505 is average at best. The Titanic is much better."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I've never heard the velodyne..but they have a good reputation."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Ronnie, go with the Polk. The 505 is wonderful and will keep you Polk pure. I have 3 of the 505's and one 303...the 505's is definitely the way to go with your system.

The 505 only extends down to 28hz, your 12's already go to 30hz, doesn't seem like it would add much extension.
I tried the Titanic at one time, it couldn't keep up with my SDA1C's at all. It liked to bottom out at higher levels. -

I currently have a 15" Dayton DIY sub powered by their 1000W subwoofer plate amplifier. The quality is absolutely phenomenal; however, placement is very important with this sub.
The 15" Dayton will absolutely blow away the Polk PSW505. I've listened to them both for extensive amounts of time and it sounded great! IMO, the 12" will be almost as good and should be better than the PSW505.
When I auditioned the PSW505, I noticed that the low frequency response was not as good as that of the Dayton, and also that the sub was a bit more boomy (just my opinion).polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Check out SVS, VMPS, AV123- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I'd also recommend SVS. The Dayton is also very good.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Go SVS. HSU makes great subs (more $), but I'm still amazed at the quality (sound and build) for the price from SVS.

The pricing of SVS subs is very good, however you can get better value if you are the type that enjoys DIY.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves
