this is a message to all the guys who own rti10's I'm waiting for mine to come in right now and I want your opinions on which amp or reciever I should get. I'm looking right now at the OUTLAW 970 prepro with the 7125 power amp?
any other suggestions. I was told from people that own some that these speakers dont start singing until they are at 100 watts per channel

JimBRICK,
It comes down to what you intend to use your RTi10's for... Music or Movies.
These speakers are not nearly as power hungry as the LSI series are, but they will benefit from more power. I use mine for 95% movies so with that, I chose the Outlaw 7700. I dont recommend this amp for music though of course with these speakers, many have said they dont recommend this speaker for music period. The Outlaw made the speakers more bright than they were when I just had my Denon 4306 driving them. I actually liked the way they sounded (playing music) with the Denon but Music was not the intent of my home theater.
If watching movies is the primary use of your home theater, then the selection you indicated is a good one. If your budget permits, try the 200wpc mono-blocks or the 9500\9700 series. If music is your focus, you may want to consider the LSI series.
Hope this helps,

Try to find a warm sounding amp because they are a bright speaker. They are pretty good for HT.
I have a 5 X 100 amp that is plenty for HT and what my family will tolerate, in my room.
My system sounds pretty good but it is the best system I have heard so I have nothing to compare it to.
If all the stars line up I will hopefully upgrade to the LSi line for my fronts and center channel.
Have fun.

Agree a warm sounding amp is what you want. I hope to score a good used B&K later this year.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH

Have you heard the RTi10's with a B&K driving them? I was curious to know what you thought of the results. -
No I haven't and my local B&K/Polk dealer (Tweeter) stopped carrying B&K. All I have to go on is what I have read and how I thought they sound with the LSi series. If I can free up some cash and find a good deal in a few months I will report back.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH

All you guys are talking about Rti8’s and 10’s are bright speakers. I have 5-channel B&K driving my Rti8’s and YES they are bright. They sounded bright (or should I say detailed) even with the tube like B&K amp.
After I changed my AudioQest speaker wires to $300.00 speaker wires WOW………..Now you talking…………”Everything calmed down”!!!
I assume you mean the Rti series are bright when you playing music.
If so, hook them up to a tube class ‘A’ amp and bingo………..no brightness just pure, soft soothing music. If you still think your Rti’s are bright roll some NOS preamp tubes and………….holy sh_t…………..Incredible!!!
This is what it is all about………....tweaking with your gear. I bought Rti8’s two years ago and had the same problem. Couldn’t handle the brightness of these speakers. After all the tweaking I’m very happy. Actually, IMO rti8’s sound a lot better that my Lsi15’s with tube amp playing music that is.
You can’t buy an amp or a receiver and hook up your gear with cheep speaker/IC wire and expect the miracles. This hobby is all about tweaking/experiencing with equipment, wire and acoustics.
If you think your speakers are bright, alter your room acoustics. It could be that 4’x 3’ wedding picture behind “Glass” hanging on your wall or big glass statue in your corner. Cover the huge picture with wool/cotton blanket and you will hear a different sound.
There are many ways to “calm” down Rti series speakers. Everything is gear, acoustic and interconnect dependable.
I know it cost $$ to tweak and find out how we would like our gears to sound. After all, that is why we are here and not playing golf………………….hehehehehe.
Cheers

I am thinking that my interconnects may be adding to the brightness of my RTi10's. I am looking at upgrading from the Monster cable that I had to an Audio Quest sidewinder or copperhead.
Is this an upgrade or a lateral move?
My speakers are bi-wired with Audio Quest X2.
Am I ok or should I upgrade?

Well since we are hijacking this thread I have found they are sensitive to your source path. My old Yamaha CD player was painfully bright with old no name interconnects that came with it. I changed to some Monster interconnects I had laying around and they calmed down.
Gator, what speaker wire are you using? I was also thinking of switching to Sidwinder or Copperhead interconnects.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH

If my wife wouldn't kill me, I'd probably jump on this right now. If you buy it, then I won't be so tempted....

Along with a bunch of other folks, I found that my RTi10's were a little bright when playing music. Not helping was the Yammy RX-V1500 that I am using to drive them. Plenty of power but a "bright" reciever. I have tried different speaker cables, IXOS, Canare 4S8 and Tributaries SP4 and finally this week I tried something completely different on the advise of shop here (Montreal) who is a big believer in Kimber Kables. I was advised to try a double run (1 cable from the amp + to the speaker + and of course - to -) of 4VS. Basically a shotgun setup. I was also told to DIY a set of jumpers using 1/2 of the 4VS. I spent most of the day yesterday making up the cables and jumpers. No great deal on the cables except for stripping the ends. The jumpers were made using by unraveling a section of cable and splitting it into 2, 4 wires in each piece. Made the jumpers 6" long. Crimped spades onto each end of the jumpers and on the main speaker cables I used Audioquest BFC bananas on each end. I wanted to use spades, but I only had 4 of them left over after the jumpers were done up.
Put the jumpers on the RTi10's and on the CSi5 and plugged in main speaker cables into the bottom posts. Turned on the system and I could not believe what I was hearing. Major difference over the Tributaries (the last cables in).
Now I know that it will take a little time before the cables are "broken in" but that I can live with. Right away, the highs were much smoother and not as "sharp". Bass was very quick and punchy. Listening was through the Yamaha "Pure Direct" mode which effectivly cuts out any signal processing.
I am going to try reversing the hook up on the speakers later on next week when I get back home from a little R&R (mains into the top posts) and see if there is a difference in SQ.
