Stands for LSi9's
I opted to start a new thread, cause the last one started on an off topic.
My plan was to purchase used LSi9's but both are sold now(on Audiogon). And currently i do not have patience to wait for another used set to arrive, plus this way(buying new) alleviates me from the fear of having had the speakers run with bad equipment, blown speakers, scratches etc...
I ended up contacting http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/ and they sell them for 700 new shipped(grey market, new, serials removed, they honor the warranty themselves).
So now i am in the market for Stands for the LSi9's either used or new.
What do you polkies suggest for stands, please include links to images and places to purchase them.
I will be getting Ebony colored speakers, so black stands preferably.
TIA

Just Googled Some Information...
Generally what speaker stands i could find, only support upto 25lbs.
The LSi9's are 33lbs a piece!!!
I also found a forum post for a DIY stand.
http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12364
Any one have experience with DIY stands?
Considering what the guy spent 23 dollars to build stands, thats next to nothing...
I am considering this, i would follow along with the way the eprson did it at the lumenlab forums, but i think i would use 2 cylinders per speaker, due to the size of the LSi9's being 9x16..
any thoughts on this?Click here To see My system

Get something you can fill with sand or lead shot. They aren't cheap, but the improvement is easily noticeable.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

Sanus have some nice stands (look for the metal ones..); partsexpress.com have them and you can see pictures on their site; you might want to look for a local dealer though to avoid shipping costs._________________________________________________

If you are still looking....Ritzcamera; best price on the web. Here's the 26" for example; $92 + 6.95 shipping. Costs $149 elsewhere....

Thanks for the Heads up.
Is that 92 dollars per stand or for a pair?
The way they word it on ritzcamera website seems like its for 1 stand not a pair.Click here To see My system

Just looked up the stands on amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/Sanus-Speaker-Stands-Steel-Foundations/dp/B00030EKU8/sr=1-1/qid=1169568546/ref=sr_1_1/104-8083766-2959924?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
They are sold thru Ritz Camera and it states speaker stands..
If i order them thru amazon.com it clearly says "Speaker Stands" and i could get a pair for that price...Click here To see My system

Probably the guy at the live chat had no idea and just read the description; you might want to order them through Amazon, or try to get someone at the warehouse; they'll know if they ship individual or singles....I would think they come in pairs.
You can mount them in several ways; these stands come with:
-Rubber supports and the speaker just sits in the stand.
-adjustable spikes; better than the rubber, but you will scratch the bottom of the speakers a bit.
-a screw to use combined with the rubber supports; you'll need a thread in the speaker (best IMO)
-some people just use velcro._________________________________________________

I was going to go the do it yourself route, but I found unless you have some skills and knowledge it's a real pain. Plus the materials aren't really any cheaper. Get a nice high quality stands, fillable if possible."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? Check out www.thetwistergroup.com. Look under audio/speakers/stands. I bought 2 pairs of stands from them and was very satisfied. The prices are good. The all metal StudioTech SP-24 stands are fillable with sand or shot, will support 50 lbs each, have adjustable, heavy duty spikes, and cost $65.12, although shipping added about $20.

do you think those would work for Tannoy System 8s? I am using guitar amp stands right now, as these are the only thing that would hold these massive mofos

I have the Sanus ultimate stand. Very solid and attractive stands for the heavy 9's. I paid a little over 200 for the pair new. No need to fill due to the heavy stonelike base. Information about these stand our in the polk store also.TV...............Hitachi 42hdS52a plasma (sexy one with the swival)

Just curious.
For speaker placement you want the tweeter to be at ear level...
What height do you guys have your tweeters at?
Looking at the LSI9's being 15" tall the tweeter sitting at 7.5".
With 30" Stands the Tweeter would be at 37.5".
from a rough measurement last nite ear level was about 40"
But we have a kitchen table behind our couches where we sit and while sitting there the ear level is raised by 10".
What size speaker stands does every one suggest to get?Click here To see My system

For what it is worth, the speaker height from ground on a Polk LSi15 floorstander is 36 inches. I have used 28 inch stands with good results. I would say 26 to 30 inches high. The LSi9s get kind of top-heavy even when sitting on top of a solid stand and I would think the more so the higher.

I have these stands for a pair of speakers that weigh 40+ lbs. They work great and they were well below any other pair I have seen.

For my lsi9's, I use the pillars from these stands....
http://www.racksandstands.com/StudioTech-SP-36-SO0011.html
..and the base from these...
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jm4JnWjoW1a/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=15810&I=051SF26B
Then i added steel shot to each pillar. That way i got the lsi9s up on 36 inch stands with a strong and heavy base.
EDIT: you will have to drill an extra hole through the base to get the pillars to connect, but that is no big deal if you have a drill.Speakers: LSi9 x 2, LSic, LSiFX x 2, Velodyne HGS-15

Thanks for the suggestion. Dayton doesnt seem to have stands bigger than 24" and i was hoping to hover around the 29" mark +-2".
I will keep doing some research on stands this week, and hit up home depot and see how big of a task it is to DYI, and decide on the spot there and see how nice the materials would look.Click here To see My system
