will this setup blow circuit breaker?

I've finally broken down and ordered a separate amp (Audiosource 300) to power my RTi 12's. (The receiver was clicking off at high volume levels, and I learned that the 12's really need more power than the Pioneer Elite 45tx can provide in 5.1.or more channels- it does fine in 2 channel mode with the 12's though) Anyway, the amp specs say it'll consume 1200 watts, The receiver consumes 3-400(??), the TV (A 64" pioneer RPTV) uses a couple 100 I assume, add in the DVD, Sat box, xbox etc and I think I might be exceeding the capacity of my 20 amp dedicated circuit. Do I need to add a separate circuit? How many watts can a 12 guage wire/20 amp circuit safely run? (20x120?)

You will be fine. I can blow a 20amp circuit if I turn my amp on and off quickly about 4 or 5 times, but for normal playback, I have never had a problem. I think you will be fine. No need fixing problems that don't exist yet.

    amps X volts = watts so a 20 amp circuit X 120 volts = roughly 2400 watts.

You should rarely be reaching that type of draw with your gear even during peak power outputs.

Following Dennis' lead - watts/volts = amps. Find the max watts draw rating (not the output!) from your components and use that number divided by 120 volts, that'll tell you the max your equipment will draw and the max amps your circuit will have to deal with. You'll never reach max.

BTW, a 20 amp circuit breaker will handle 30 amps for a few seconds before it trips. So even if you approached a 20 amp load, momentarily, you won't trip it.

Mike, I'm just curious, what would posess you to turn your amp on and off quickly about 4 or 5 times?

I was testing the trigger input to auto turn it on from my Pre/Pro. (never did get it to work correctly, oddly enough - the trigger input draws to much current (or voltage?) and wont turn on the amp. (I had a wall wart that when set to 12 volts would turn it on or off though....)

It was odd, but now I just turn it on and off separately from my Pre/Pro.

When I said turn it on or off quickly - it is turn it on or off more than 4 or 5 times in less than 1-2min. I think it is the inrush of power filling the caps that actually blows the circuit.

These control power strips are great just plug into thw wall, then plug avr or preamp into blue outlet and the amps into the red ones and when you turn the pre/pro on and off the amps will turn on and off at the same time, neat.
Any of the first 3 on the top work the same.
