And how is the price? Do you think it is reasonable? If I decide to go this route, what kind of figure would you personally shoot this guy?

I would get a brand new Outlaw for a few hundred more. ATI and Outlaw are basically the same just different names and minor details. The Sunfire is a class D amp while the Outlaw is A/B
    if I am not mistaken.

Class D? Where's that tidbit from?

The price is way lower than the average and unless I was local, would probably pass it up. The communication would have to be rock solid for me to commit to that particular deal but it's your find not mine. I think both Outlaw and Sunfire make solid gear....its win win.

Mark, how would you classify Sunfire amps if not class D, I always thought Carver was a switching amp of some sorts from the time they came out in market 1984 or so.

He has nothing but good feedback on Audiogon.. Do you think this is a rip-off? Not really what he is selling? A combination of both? I have never purchased anything used online via E-bay nor Audiogon.. This will be a new experience if I go this route.. Any advice about completing a transaction on these sites would be greatly appreciated.. How would you go about doing it? etc etc..

    Thanks,

A class D amplifier is a power amplifier where all power devices are operated in on/off mode. Bob’s Sunfire design uses a variable power supply that is fixed at a 6 volt minimum, so it doesn’t exactly fit in Class D.

I never worked on a Carver amp so I never wish too either, but it seems it has a switching power supply and a conventional A/B class bi-bolar output circuitry more or less.

I don't care what class Sunfire falls into, my amp sounds great! I would go for it.

I think the price is probably about right, since other Sunfire amps have since taken its place.

Thanks everyone for you input... Ive have got it narrowed down to the Sunfire or an Earthquake Grand cinenova 5.. I found a great price on an Earthquake last nite.. Its about 800 more, but I will be getting 75 more watts a channel.. I thought maybe I should go that route.. Regardless, I dont think I can go wrong with either option.. Now I just have to decide how much money I need left over to start buying some other needed equipment, and how long I am willing to wait between peices..

If you're willing to spend 800 more then find a Sunfire Signature or Sig II as a competitor ...

    425 watts @ 8 ohms ... 850 @ 4 ... 1700 @ 2 time limited

They're both 5 channel amps ... Follow the Dual CG Sig II's link in my signature.

    The newer version(s) i.e. the 5400 and 7400 are the 5 and 7 channel flavors respectively. http://www.sunfire.com/amp.htm

Strange how things work out because I am now expecting the Sunfire CG2 in the next week!

This thing doesn't emit any heat, great selling point IMO
