I was intending to purchase Polk LSi 15's from http://acousticsounddesign.com/ but i called to place the order for them and the first availability is 3 weeks.

Now since i have some time, i am loking for opinions on other brands..

What do you guys think of the Rocket RS450 it also has a Vifa tweeter sells for 900, but no low-end.

Also what are your opinions on Axiom Floor standers either M60 or M80.

I wouldnt even consider the Axiom line up.

They freaking build their stuff out of cardboard practically. Cheap materials, cheap finishes, cheap drivers. More so compared to the RT series than the LSi series.

Sadly though, if I were to buy a pair of speakers right now between the LSi and Onix - It would most likely be Onix. Sorry Polk.

PS: The LSi series is excellent - but I just like the way the Onix line up looks. Haha. *sigh*
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I can't speak for the M60 or M80, but I happen to like the QS8's for my surrounds. Sound is great for me with decent power to them. Didn't notice the cardboard.

    Good luck in your search.

John K. loves Axiom, that's all you need to know that they suck.

hey just a little tid bit with acoustic sound design, they have no serial numbers obviously on the back, i have purchased 2 sets of speakers from them and they are perfect minus the serial number. i believe if you make one order with them, you can receiver 20% off the next one. you should inquire about that. you could purchase a center and sell it back on ebay for a similar price and use the discount on your towers if you do end up going the lsi route.

3 weeks is worth the wait for the LSi's, trust me :)

I dont even have the remote notion of upgrading the LSi's in my hteater, especially when I see how much I would have to spend for what some would call a significant improvement (Von Scheikert?....Martin Logan....eeeesh, I have a mortgage dude!!!) :D

Schiit SYS Passive Pre. Jolida CD player. Songbird streamer. California Audio Labs Sigma II DAC, DIY 300as1/a1 Ice modules Class D amp. LSi15 with MM842 woofer upgrade, Nordost Blue Heaven and Unity interconnects.

    Upstairs 2 Channel Rig -

3 weeks to wait is a no brainer for the Lsi's. There isn't a speaker out there that I can think of that is better than the Lsi's in its price range. You'd have to spend a lot more to surpass their ultimate performance and then you are just moving up the ladder incrementally.

3 weeks is still a decent amount of time.

No hurt in checking out other brands and listening and chilling...

Buddy of mine at work, didnt realize they were into HT stuff as well.

He has a full B&W 600 S3 set at his place.

    DM604 S3 2x Fronts retail for 1400 a pair
    LCR60
    DM602.5 2x Rears

Going to listem to the 604's and try and compare them to the LSi's.

What is the Polkie consensus on the B&W's?

I also requested auditions to Axioms and the Rockets.

Every where i have read, axioms are constructed inadequately...

No harm in looking around and comparing. Just a note of caution when comparing, make sure it's a fair comparison. Listening to other people's equipment in their environment and then listening to other equipment in another environment isn't a good way to do it. So many times LSi's are misrepresented in a dealer showroom or are run by inadequate electronics. This can happen with other brands as well.

I've heard some rumblings from people I know who thought the LSi's were just ordinary until they heard mine properly set-up with proper electronics. I used to be in that camp especially after hearing anything in the dealer showroom.

IMO, LSi's should not be in the same sentence as Rockets or Axiom, they are that much better. As far as B & W you either like 'em alot or hate 'em alot. The last pair I listened to just didn't do it for me. Very forward and had a sucked out midrange.(can't remember the model but it was awhile ago). Keep in mind this was in the showroom so not the best environment as noted above.

    Have fun

Out of curiosity, why are you buying it from there? Why not grab a pair off of Crutchfield and have it shipped out today? I'd think that be the best bet IMO. No waiting around to contemplate how to purchase inferior speakers ;)

Acoustic Sound Design is not an authorized dealer, so they can sell below the Polk set price. Long story short - $450 more to purchase from crutchfield.

Mainly Due to price. This is my Fist HT. Price from Acoustic was under 1200 shipped, where as Crutchfield is 1500....

and yes 300 bucks gets me original Manf. warranty, but Acoustic offers their own warranty that matches Polks...

I was thinking the same thing.

As far as my opinion between the LSi and the Rockets (no opinion of Axioms), I have heard that both have very pleasing sounds to their owners. I have also been very impressed with the Rocket forums and the developers participation in that same forum. Like Polk members here, the rocket owners get very excited about any new upgrades or announcements about their systems. That says alot about a speaker when you have that kind of loyalty, customer support, and excitement about the product.

I think you will be happy with either.

    So i've been thinking...

This is my first Venture into HT, and i know that i will catch the upgrade bug eventually, why not just start off small...

So i have been thinking of getting a used pair of LSi9's and some nice looking stands, and then i could get my Sub alot faster than i would have normally been able to get.

I can most likely pick up a used set for LSi9's for 500ish and a decent stand for 150ish which would be about half price of the LSI15's.....

Only thing is, if i get the 9's i would almost immediately after have to get a good Sub, but the money i would save over the 15's i dont see that being a problem.

Just before i make offers on Audiogon..

How much do LSi9's typically go for used and shipped?

Cause they are asking for about 500, what is an offer i could make them without having them totally ignore me.

On the sub portion i've been doing research as well.

The #1 contender currently is the HSU VTF-3 HO. Subs are alot easier to research and find out which ones are the best vs speakers..

Depends on on how good the reviews for the new SVS Ultra and the price difference, but more than likely i will order the HSU

Looks like there are three people selling 'em, so nows the time to jump. To be honest with you, all three prices are the lowest I've ever seen. Try to get one of them to throw in shipping and you've got a stellar deal.

    I looked at those...

Zero reputation, plus he states no shipping... IDk, i would be very very weary about having those shipped with either UPS or Fedex.... If they were in florida i would totally consider it.

Also now that i am looking at LSi9's....

What do you guys recommend for stands, i would like them to be nice looking, which was one of the reasons i was leaning towards the LSi15s instead of the 9's.
