For all you thrift store LP collectors (like myself), you probably wonder what a really good audiophile pressing sounds like, but can't bring yourself to spend $30+ for one LP. Well here's your chance to get a handfull of really well recorded LPs for as little as $5.00 each while supplies last. (BTW, I'm not affiliated, just wanting to pass this along)

Acousticsounds.com has all their AudioQuest LPs on clearance with prices ranging from $5.00-$17.50, but five selections are $7.50 or less. Mostly unknown artists, but I bought all the ones that are $7.50 or less and I'm really, REALLY impressed by the quality. Despite what the website says, they are all 180g LPs, all analog recordings, directly analog mastered to LP, nice MoFi inner sleeves. In general, really nice LPs for the price. The music is pretty good too! Also found out upon receipt that the Sasha Matson is a double LP!

Get them while they last and give your vinyl rig a treat.

Listening to these was a real eye (actually ear) opener for me. Playing these, I could honestly, for the first time, say that it clearly sounded better than CD, or even SACD. Deep powerful bass, smooth velvety mids and crisp (but not harsh) highs, no detectable noise/rumble either. Music just comes straight out of a black background.

Its better quality vinyl. The album weighs 180 grams instead of maybe 80g of a normal cheap pressing. Its noticably thicker, usually no warps, its stiff and doesn't bend, and pressing is cleaner. Just sounds better (usually)

180gr. refers only to weight, not necessarily the 'quality' of the vinyl itself (that is where you see things such as "virgin" vinyl, etc.). I have plenty of 180gr. (and even 220gr.) pressings that sound terrible, and some that are very thin (110gr. maybe) that are dead quiet and extremely dynamic...sorta like a thick piece of poo vs. a thin slice of Kobe beef. :)

I don't own any AQ pressings, though.

I agree that 180g doesn't neccesarilly mean that it sounds great, but in this case, I can tell you, the AQ pressings are more like a thick Filet from Ruth's Chris.

I've got the sale priced AQ pressings. Well worth the price. The Akagi LP is particularly good.

That was the first one I listened to. Very dynamic, smooth, and clean; actually pretty cool jazz too!

Before he took his little hiatus he was looking to buy new car...now he's back thinking a few LPs are expensive. Just what kind of car did you buy Madmax?

I'll have to post a pic sometime. I got a Toyota Scion xB, otherwise known as a box or a toaster. I bought it because it was the cheapest thing out there and got mileage in the 30's but after driving it for a few months I would buy another in a second. Its a lot of fun to drive.
