Pioneer Elite 45 with RTI 12's??

I've recently aquired a pair of Rti 12's to replace my Rti 70's. I am very pleased with their performance on 2 channel music-but during 5.1 soundtracks on movies the receiver clicks off whenever something loud comes along- gunshots, loud music, sometimes just dialogue. If I turn down the volume the problem seems to go away. I assume from reading the rti12 reviews that I need more power, but until the amp arrives (considering the Audiosource a300). I'm wondering if the receiver can be damaged by these episodes? Also, will 150watts RMS be enough?
