I believe the initial guess is between 30% to 40% more than the current model. The PCU should be about 1500 to 1600.

Just called SVS and they said the following is a very tenative target, but this is what they are shooting for.

Available in the april-may of this year timeframe. Pricepoint they are trying to hit is in the $1500ish range.

Once again nothing set in stone, but those are at least their current targets.

Sounds like a very realistic price for such a powerful sub. $1500 aint too bad. I'm sure I'll be picking up a used one from the FM in about 6 years.

    No...

I want right and left subwoofers...

Im looking at tight, accurate musical needs vs. HT -

Whether you want to admit it or not, bass is directional in ways...

    I just want "stereo" subs

    Vr3MxStyler2k3,

If you are planning on using stereo subs in the future, I am curious to know why you are purchasing floorstanding (Taylo 7u) speakers.

Wouldn't the Reference Monitor be a better choice? The price difference could allow you to purchase one sub now or in the near future. Place the sub somewhere between the two monitors. I would place the sub built-in line level crossover between the preamp and amp. Calibrate as required. You now have a very capable low end mated with very capable monitors.

Additionally, if you are happy with the sonic characteristics of your current amp, there would be no reason to replace this as most of the musical energy is now produced by the sub, relieving the amp of this duty. If you require further refinement, upgrade to an amp with improved sonic characteristics.

In the future, you could add an external active crossover and/or an additional matching sub.

Anyways, just some thoughts on your future direction.

    Hey Jm1,
Ive owned many monitors (currently have a pair in my position actually) -- and there is one constant with every pair Ive heard. Regardless of price and quality - they just dont capture the music for me. They lack the overall dynamics, prescence that I desire for music.

With that said, I have heard very few floorstanding speakers I did not like. Atleast not for the reasons I mentioned above...

And lets put this in the perspective of I did not like Wilson's Cub monitor set, at like 30,000. To me, just something about the design that just lacks the overall depth, dynamics, and prescence - just dosnt capture it for me.

Along those lines, I also believe in crossing my mains very low, as I don't believe a large driver can fully capture the upper octaves of the bass region. I think a sub should only do about 50hz and below (if not lower)...

The way I figure it, Im spending ALOT of money on my current gear, but Ive already bought this gear about 3 times over the past few years. So basically I am getting exactly what I want, power, towers, subs, preamp, cdp - the color, new, used, w/e it takes.

To me, it is the combination I need to truly be where I want to be in this hobby. Unlimited amounts of clarity and dynamics...

PS: Space is a big issue with sub placement with me, no way I can pull off a center position of subs.

Thought I would ask even though I have followed your progress.

The component I found which finally allowed the music to flow within my system was upgrading the preamp. At the time, I had:

    Pioneer DVD player as transport
    Museatex Dac
    Rotel 980 preamp
    Simuadio amp
dbx active crossover (80 Hz crossover)
    Dynaudio Contour S1.4 monitors
two SVS PCU subs (the subs are excellent to and beyond 80Hz)

I thought the sound was quite good and wouldn’t have given it another thought. But one day after searching, I saw a used preamp. The Rotel was removed from the system and replaced with a Simaudio preamp. The difference was startling and completely unexpected.

I have since upgraded to the Dynaudio Confidence C1 monitors. This was another remarkable upgrade allowing me to rediscover the music. Its too bad the Positive Feedback review of these speakers is a pile of verbal diarrhea.

The system is complete with the above two changes.

I am wondering if the new Ultra drivers give any further sonic refinement over the current Ultra drivers. That would be the only reason I swap the current PCUs for new PCUs.

Explore all options before making any final judgments on what you think is the correct path to where you want to go. I was blindsided by the preamp upgrade and still have a huge grin on my face thinking what I could have been missing.

    Regards.
