I seem to have a little problem with my ps3. Any ideas?

I get 1080i playback on my ps3 when watching a Blu-ray movie but only get 480p playback when playing a ps3 game. This is according to my tv set during plyback. Since I am using the same cable and output settings I am confused on why the game isn't in 720 or 1080. The game case lists 720 and/or 1080i support. Can anybody help me out a little.

I have my tv at 1080i and the PS3 to 1080i. No matter what i play or put in the unit, i get no flicker or resolution change, just awesome picture quality.
I am also using component. Thier are lots of warnings in the manual about HDMI vs HDCP and what not.

I'm very happy with the look of the games I am just wondering since it says that they are only playing in 480p just how much better it would look at 1080i. I guess I am mainly confused on why its plays different from movie to game?

I am playing Ridge Racer 7 today and it looks VERY sharp in 1080i.
    What cable are you using?
Did you do the Firmware upgrades?

So Scott, just to confirm when you play a game your tv is displaying a 1080i signal?

I guess I should call Sony and see if they can help me out.

    Kevin,
The firmware upgrades are really important, there are three of them already. I bought the Sony Blu-Ray remote today and it said in the instructions that it would not even function without the upgrades.

Thier is a direct connect weblink in the PS3 and it takes about 20+minutes.
    Here's the main PS3 page.

I was talking about this in another thread but i believe the scaler in my tv, once set to 1080i, simply upconverts everything i send to it.
Sony also has a really helpful forum, no bashing spammers, just people who want to help. Well from what i have seen anyway.

    Fixed.

The boy (14) was home sick today from school. I gave him the 800 #'s for both Hitachi and Sony and said fix it. 4 phonecalls later and we are now HD for both movies and games. WOW I like it.

Glad you got it all sorted! My jaw hit the floor when I saw Silent Hill and Crank on Blu-ray.
