    Polk 400.4

Every bit as good as the JL amp, a little cheaper and youll have an amp that not everybody and their brother has. ;)

The JL is a tightly regulated amp, so you won't be getting the same dynamics as the loosely regulated Polk amp. Just giving you more reasons to buy the Polk, but I'm a bit biased :)

Brian makes a great point and one that Id forgotten. The JL Slash series amps are fully regulated. That means theyll make say 100 watts at 10-15 volts and at 1-8 ohms. No matter what, theyll make 100 watts.

The Polks are not regulated. You get more power with more input voltage and so on. The benefit to this is that music isnt constant, its dynamic. So when a snare drum hits like a sledghammer, the Polk will do a better job at reproducing the impact because not being regulated, it will slap it out with more power as opposed to the JL which stays at the same power all the time.

I have the 450/4 with the sr6500's in my daily driver SUV and I have the c400.4 with a set of the infinity Perfects but soon to change to SR6500's in my work truck.

At first I had thought the JL amp sounded better and stronger but after 400 post to MAC :D . I found that the power being JL 150 x 2 versus Polk 75 x 2 is what I was hearing. I would have to say after some tweeking around the Polk amp sounds Awesome!!! but dont get me wrong the JL amp ROCKS too. It is hard to compar as of now untill I get the SR6500 on the c400.4 then I can compare as to SQ.

MAC even though the JL amp is tightly regulated then are quite a bit under rated you just dont have to lower the ohm load to get the power and they seem to run a bit cooler then other mono amps I have used even when going down to 2 ohms on it.

i disagree with a unregulated amp having more impact. as long as the rail voltage is not exceded a regulated amp will have the same impact. i have used both and have heard no difference in the dynamics of the music or overall sound quality. there are advantages and disadvantages to both designs, but impact and dynamics is not an one of them.

Lowering the impedance doesnt make more power. Regulated amps make the same power at 2 ohms, 4 ohms, 8 ohms and so on.

Run down to your local shop and grab whatever kit they have with the proper size wire. Tsunami, Streetwires, Stinger, theyre all good stuff.
